New to this hobby please help me

Hi all i’m unsure on what speakers to get i have a marantz sr5011 my budget is 4,000 for floor standing speakers.  I found a local deal on some golden ear technology t66 the red ones for$3800.  But how do i pick without the ability to listen to other brands kef sonus faber etc!!   Is golden ear even good what suggestions do you have on hearing lots of brands under one roof.  My listening is 50 percent music 50 percent movies.

@nondemo They are santa monica red !  I’m unsure how i would figure out what room treatments i would need ? how do people figure that out?

@wizzard Awesome choice! Those are the ones I demo'd and they were fantastic! Congrats! As far as figuring out room treatments, I like the "stuff of life" concept. That's basically having a "normal" living space. If you clap your hands loudly and can hear echoing or unpleasant rigging, then you can add some room treatments. I used to build my own but got sick of the hassle and went with GIK Acoustics. They have a pretty good knowledge base on their website: https://www.gikacoustics.com/blogs/knowledge-base

I wouldn't go nuts and definitely DO NOT spend a ton of money trying to hit their "recommended coverage", but a few diffusers and absorbers at the first reflection points would be good enough to start. The T66 has pretty good linearity so you don't need to worry too much about off-axis sound changing the tonality of the direct sound. Erin from Erin's Audio Corner and Matt Poes from Poes Acoustics have great YouTube channels discussing everything you'll need to know to get "hooked" in this hobby. Check them out! Otherwise, get to listening and relax, you have fantastic gear!

you can go two ways about room treatment. 1st is that your room is a mess, you need to treat it, every square inch.

Unless it's a an aquarium with wells that echo the echos, it's an ok room so assume the 2nd: fix "glaring" issues. Windows, big tv in the middle, surfaces that interfere with the bass, serious issues. The rest is diminishing returns e.g. your significant other holding up wet towels by the door.
