Sony SACD Player SCD-XA5400ES; YAY or NAY? (around $1,000. usd used)

6 dacs, 3 left/3 right

sends SACD’s DSD out RCA jacks without conversion to PCM.

Upscales CD’s 8x to SACD #s, then out RCA

spinner traverses over fixed dual laser: one cd, one sacd

2010 model: typically 10-12 years old, I see laser assemblies for sale, indicates

a. people want to keep em going.

b. laser problematic

I find lots of info on Crutchfield's site, they maintain info on discontinued models

Picked up a used 5400. Sounds good, not great, as a cd player. But, thru my Laiv uDAC it sounds great.as a cd transport. For reference he uDAC is R2R and costs under $900. It seems that DAC technology has progressed a lot in the past several decades, and i recommend the 5400 as a cd transport connected to a very good DAC. PS i am new to SACD and thats a whole other topic for another time.
