Sum Total Cost Of All Cables In Your Rig?

I ran a test some time ago and it was incredibly hard/pulling teeth for me to hear an 'improvement' on a ~5000 dollar cable over ~700 dollar cable from the same manufacturer. It sounded different, not better.  2 other guys who were sitting there in the same room came to the same conclusion. 

Someone might argue that 5000 dollar cable just worked better synergistically in a different system/room. By the same token, some other 700 dollar cable from somewhere might also have worked better in that different system/room.

A difference being heard is not neccesarily an improvement.......But, hey, if you can convince yourself or throw some cash around, go for it.

I spend money on my cables because it makes me feel better. Does it sound better I don't know.  
 

I also like to impress them with my system when they walk in the room and when I tell them about all the lovely cables I'm using.

But I should add, I love watching my cables at night, I pull up the sofa closer and we fall asleep together.

I also have this fear that I am going to be robbed and they are gonna tie me up with my cables and I'm gonna be smiling because they have no clue how much they're worth. 
 

I am not worried about amplifiers being stolen because they weigh nearly 200 pounds.

I think my first purchase of cables was inspired like this By the time I bought a second set... my criteria moved to "worth the sound quality improvement that I heard". I made a couple mistakes and they made my system sound worse... because my components were inexpensive and sounded very harsh when transparency was introduced. So, I backed off to less expensive copper interconnects to help cover the harshness and warm up the presentation. As my systems got better the higher end the cables were, then better they made my system sound.
