How much tariff if buying $10k from Japan?

Dear all,

This is November 2025, I’m about to execute a $10k brand new item from Japan and was curious how much everyone had paid from what amount and what month, year. Thanks

nasaman

@nasaman the price I quoted was with taxes and everything else. The person I bought from was extremely good with the transaction. I had the unit delivered to me withing 10 days of purchase, which included the customs inspection and fees.

I ordered on October 7th, and it was delivered on October 17th after looking at my eBay receipt. I paid $6300 for the unit brand new in the box. With taxes it was $7008.75.

The seller was tokyo-raps. The customs fees were paid directly to the shipper, which was DHL Express. They were also very easy to work with. I had to pay them directly when the unit cleared customs before they would deliver it.

As for eBay and taxes, they absolutely do make you pay taxes in the USA on all purchases now. I don’t know why someone is playing with semantics.

I love the Luxman and could not be happier. I do have to use a step-down transformer to get the voltage to 100V. There is also no warranty service in the US for products that are supposed to be sold on the Japanese market.

ebay charges you but it's not taxing. You pay the taxes to your state. Via ebay.

I just bought a watch from Japan a week ago for $6200, the tariff fee was $1088 from DHL ... Bought direct from the seller so I dodged the 10% California ripoff sales tax though

@nasaman

I would avoid purchasing any products from Japan that aren't rated in American voltage simply because a properly specified step-down transformer will probable ameliorate and savings you think you might be getting!

@faustuss the step down transformer costs no more than $350 and that's for a really good one. They cause no interference whatsoever.
