@tomic601 yup, that definitely helped! Thanks for all the suggestions folks, sounding much better tonight!

Playing one of the records in my collection I know intimately-Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid Soundtrack (1973 Col) and with the room dynamics coming together I am really starting to appreciate the Grado upgrade. Best cartridge I’ve tried so far in my system.
@tomic601
I updated photos and equip on my virtual page. Speakers are 24” from front wall, 19” from side walls, and 7’ apart. My ears are approximately 7’ from center axis.

Ronnell Bright Trio-Sam Records 2021
Feat- Time Loves a Hero Speakers Corner

Doing the bob and weave the whole time trying to find the sweet spot. This room is literally twice the sq ft of the previous listening room and I can’t seem to get the right set up for great soundstage.
Still trying to get the new listening room dialed in and failing miserably.

Supertramp-Breakfast in America Mofi

2 songs in and I’m not gonna make it much further. Room acoustics/speaker placement is all wrong.
Dialing in the new listening space today.

@tomic601 LOVE Blackberry Smoke! In that same vein, if you’re not already aware, check out Rival Sons, Black Pistol Fire, and Wolfmother.

Feat- Waiting for Columbus Mofi is my choice tonight. Really liking this Grado.
@spiritofradio the original mono sailboat copy I have was purchased new by my father in law, it’s old and not well cared for.
The reissue I just acquired “digitally remastered from the original analog tapes” definitely has more dynamic range, and a lot fewer pops and snaps. It is mono as well.

Mounted a new Grado Opus3 LOMI cartridge today. Been burning it in all day, currently spinning Vol1 of Art’s Meet You at the Jazz Corner of the World. Then we’ll do Vol2. Already spun Rush A Farewell to Kings, Leo Kottke My Fathers Face, and Kenny Burrell at The Village Vanguard.
Stopped at estate sale on
my way home from work tonight that had a Yorx stereo system as the image for their ad on fb marketplace. I figured there might be some vinyl, since the system included a TT. Picked up 20 records for $1 each, including the
Miles Davis +19 Miles Ahead I am listening to now. This is the Columbia Jazz Masterpieces 1987 reissue. I aslo have the OG that I got from my father-in-law’s collection. It doesn’t sound as good as this one!
After that it’s the $1 John Coltrane Quartet-Coltrane “Custom Pressed on PREMIUM VIRGIN VINYL-AUDIOPHILE” (according to the hype sticker on the back).
Van Morrison- Tupelo Honey 1971 WB
Grateful Dead- Wake of the Flood 1983
                         Grateful Dead Records
                          GD-01
@bkeske when I saw you were on a Kottke roll I wondered if you would get to “My Father’s Face.” It’s a personal favorite, but looks like you moved into Richard Thompson before you got to that one.
Garcia Band-Cats Under the Stars

@spiritofradio Israel is an all time favorite jazz record, but it’s one of those I have to make sure I get 45 minutes of uninterrupted listening time for it. Darken the listening room, light a candle, and drop the needle. I really enjoy that record.
Vandys where the eye opener that exposed me to true home hifi. Sometime in the mid to lte 80’s (bad memory) a friend invited me over to his brother-in-laws house to hear this system I had heard so much about. I think the components were CJ, but I can’t recall exactly because I was so blown away by the Vandys and the CD player. Up to that point I had owned or heard midfi stuff, and heard some awfully good gear at local hifi shops, but those absolutely got me. That was 30 or more years ago and I remember it vividly.

Jimmy Smith, I’m Movin On spinning right now.
The Band-Islands.

Yup, I’m THAT much of a fan that I occasionally listen to this album.

Grant Green in the on deck circle.
Warming up with Crime of the Century. Wake of the Flood is on deck. Might close out the night with Zoot Simms.
Stopped at an estate sale today that claimed to have “2000 vinyl records, great condition” to find that, for the first time in years, it was an accurate listing description. $2 each. No real serious gems, but I did pick up enough to complete my Ronstadt and Raitt collection, among a few dozen other things. Working my way through the Bonnie stuff now.
Stopped into my favorite LRS today to find about 8 boxes of recently acquired  vinyl just inside the back door:

“Mike I know you haven’t had a chance to sort through these yet, but do you mind if I take a look?”

“Sure, if you see anything that I need to get on the floor right away just pull it out and I’ll price it. Anything you want just make me an offer.”

Can’t remember the last time I left there with more than a half dozen records, but I did today.

Bill Evans at Montreux, OP VG+Ramsey Trio The In Crowd OP M-
Jamal Standard Eyes M-
Dexter Master Takes M-

Just to name a few. Currently listening to Woody Guthrie Bound for Glory
Soundtrack while I try to figure out where to start with the newly aquired jazz titles!

Cate Brothers-S/T

This album, mastered by B Grundman and heavily influenced by Levon Helm is SO good I could never understand how they didn’t sell more records and break through.

If you don’t have this, it’s easily found for a few bucks. You can thank me later.
Starting with Steely Dan Katy Lied. Thought about slipping into a Rush binge, but I have the day off tomorrow so I’ll get into that tomorrow.

bkeske, very cool that you saw Bobby back then. I was fortunate enough to see the Dead 40+ times from ‘85-‘95 as well as a few offshoots. Good times.
Starting the evening with Allmans Wipe the windows…

I feel lime I’ve mentioned that title a few times in this thread!
The PS-X5/Signet is in the bullpen. The sound quality difference between that tt and my Orbit custom/2M Red is undeniable. Not sure if it’s just a bad pairing with my Tavish pre or what but I couldn’t take it anymore. Probably sell it.

Bob Weir-Heaven Help the Fool
‘Trane-sun-ship
Allmans-Eat a Peach
Hank Mobley No Room for Squares.

Jury is still out on the 35 year old estate sale DD Sony. There is something aesthetically pleasing about listening to vinyl from the 60’s and 70’s on a TT the same age, but I need to test some different carts. The one that I have on it (AT TK7Ea) doesn’t seem to pair well with my Tavish pre.
Running an estate sale TT through it’s paces tonight:

Leo Kottke-My Fathers Face
Feat-Mofi S/T
Allmans-Wipe the windows…
Miles-Someday My Prince
Going deep into the vault tonight.

The Subdudes-S/T.

We’ll have to see where this leads next.
Just plugged in my new Tavish Classic phono after a loooong build delay. Breaking it in the best way I know with MoFi Waiting for Columbus.
starting with Wish You Were Here-
                                      Japanese press

We’ll see what happens after that.
FZ Tinseltown Rebellion

Then on to:

Fleetwood Mac Then Play On
                             (Celebration Edition)

Commander Cody Band- Rock & Roll
                                                       Again
bkeske,

I bought the 180g reissue of The Band a while back and it sounds incredible on my modest system.

Tonight is FZ-Overnight Sensation.
Allmans-Wipe the Windows, Check the Oil...
My copy is a first pressing in near mint condition. It gets a LOT of playtime here.
