Unplugged for a few days this week and spent time in the sticks chasing birds with my dog. Easing myself back into routine.

Bill Evans Trio-Portrait in Jazz Mofi One Step

Pink Floyd-DSOTM 2016 Grundman RE

Steely Dan-The Royal Scam 1976 ABC

Anyone else ever noticed how infrequently the Beatles are mentioned in this thread? Odd isn't it?

Monk-Palais Des Beaux-Arts 1963

Thoroughly enjoying the music the MA352 makes. I did find that I prefer the way the Linn sounds with this amp more than the other two TT in my stable. Not a bad thing by any means.

Tomic,

Thanks! I try to avoid all the Mc hatred and forum noise. I have lusted over the blue meters for 40+ years. Fortunate to be at a place in my life where "end game" gear is becoming a reality after having jumped back into hifi. So far the MA352 just makes me smile.

Not sure where to go after this.

After a short wait I was able to bring home a new MA352 today. Lots of listening to do!

Dexter Gordon-The Savoy Recordings

This is pretty much the only thread I read or contribute to any more. Quite enjoyable!
@reubent congrats on the TT score. Not long ago I went to an estate sale to buy a record collection and ended up leaving with the records and a near mint Pioneer PL-630 in original box. Several have challenged it, but none have taken its place.

Art Blakey Roots & Herbs BN Tone Poet
Bill Evans Trio-On a Friday Evening Craft

I’ve listened to all 4 sides of this one probably a dozen times since it arrived. Craft sometimes gets a bad rap for quality control, but this pressing is flawess.
Monk-Palais des Beaux-Arts 1963 Mono
                                                 RSD 2020

Fighting off a horrible case of upgrade-itis lately. Nothing good can come of this!
Pretty good about ear hygiene as I wear aids, but never done the otal enema thing. Probably should try it.

Was a weekwnd full of vinyl and tramadol. The new VM740 is breaking in nicely.

Lots of spinning today:
Zep III 1st UK press
Zep II 2014 Deluxe Ed Remastered
Donald Fagen The Nightfly
Bill Evans Trio 64
Kansas Point of Know Return
Wayne Shorter-Speak No Evil
And to finish the night, Yes-Close to the Edge is on deck.

Enjoying the relaxing and just listening. Hope everyone has a great evening.
Knee surgery went well I’m told (have to rely on witnesses since I was unconscious). Thus begins a very long, opioid induced listening session.

@mammothguy54 best of luck, I’m sure it will be fine in due time.

Lots of vinyl today to break in the new AT VM740ML (I wish AT would just use cute little names like oyster and otello).

This is the first surgery on the left knee, prior procedures were all on the right. Meniscus tear in two places this time. As I tell everyone that sees me hobbling around or on crutches, “I’m a 54 year old trapped in a 90 year old body.”

Appreciate all the well wishes!
Fleetwood Mac-Then Play on 2020 BMG

Knee surgery (5th one) scheduled for next Wednesday, will get a lot of listening time in the coming weeks.
@sourpuss123 that Faces record! ;)

Ahmad Jamal’s Alhambra Argo 1961 Mono
This old copy is pretty beat up, but still my favorite Jamal.

Coleman Hawkins and Conferees- Analogue Productions 2012 45rpm. This is the opposite of my copy of Alhambra. One of the top 5 best sounding records I own.

New belt arrived today for the Linn, and yes, I bought the outrageously expensive Linn factory belt. Got this TT for nearly nothing, so I don’t feel bad spending a little $ to upgrade the belt and phono cables.

The Linn Basik is officially my full time TT now. Ordered an AT VM740ML for it today.
Found a few good ones at an estate sale yesterday, including a sealed “walking two eye” 1968 Columbia Johnny Cash Live at Folsom Prison.
Something tells me Neil Young Live Rust 1979 Reprise is a good set to follow Johnny.
Monk-Palo Alto Impulse 2020
Wayne Shorter-Speak No Evil BN 2020

I also have a vinyl copy of Rough Mix headed my way from a discogs transaction. Definitely bad influences here on this thread.
@bkeske I suspect Rough Mix didn’t disappoint on vinyl.

Spent the day off today cleaning all the records I’ve acquired over the last month or so. Then spun a few:

Neil Young-Comes A Time 1978 Reprise
Sabbath-Paranoid 1971 WB

Now Spinning Stones-Exile 1972 Pittman
Aretha-Spirit in the Dark 1970 Atlantic

I was fortunate enough to meet Warren when he came to town in 1991. I was working at a local radio station and was to interview him on air. When he came into the studio there I was with my head phones on, completely speechless and locked up. We didn’t do an interview on air.

Just got a batch of OG Blue Note, Verve, and Prestige back from Perfect Vinyl Forever. This was my 2nd batch of 16 I’ve sent him. A+
80’s night tonight.

dB’s-Like This 1984 Bearsville
Clash-London Calling 1980 Epic
A pair of freshly cleaned acquisitions from the recent estate sale on the TT tonight (still using the Linn):

Miles & Monk-At Newport 1973 Japan CBS
LZ-Physical Graffiti late 70’s Specialty
Records repress

@bkeske I can’t say I’ve ever heard your “reference LP”. Always fascinated by what people list as their reference.
Skipped ahead a few years and did Permanent Waves after 2112 last night.

Just finished spinning Another Side of Bob Dylan-1964 mono to honor a friend that passed yesterday.

Allmans at Fillmore East-1971 Capricorn is next.

@nicks25 congrats on the Accuphase. Beautiful piece.
Rush-2112 Mercury 1976

Not sure where to go from here. Can’t decide if this was just the perfect vinyl for tonight, or if my recently rescued Linn Basik with a 40 year old cartridge could actually sound better than my modded PL-630.
@slaw I’ve got the room pretty well dialed now, will put the finishing touches on it tomorrow. I’m also quite happy with my current rig.

That said, I’ve only ever heard maggies at the local dealer, they’ve carried the line for a long time. Now that I have the space and resources I thought it would be interesting to hear some in my room. These are their demo pair, I was told if I like them and decide to order it would be about six month wait. The experiment just confirmed what I already suspected and that is it’s going to take a pretty big financial jump to improve on the system symmetry I have now.

Appreciate your concern and input!

Near the end of the Maggie .7 experiment. I enjoy the hell out of closing my eyes and having entire stage in front and around me. Huge “sweet spot” if you can even call it that, with these.

Buuuuuut, I’ve played with positioning a ton, and tried lots of various recordings and just don’t get the sound out of these that I am used to with my Audiovector monitors. The separation of instruments and vocals just isn’t there for me. I could go into much more detail, but not in this thread.
Doing a home demo on a pair of Maggie .7 speakers this weekend. Starting tonight with:

The Band-S/T 2015 Remaster
Bud Powell In Paris 1963 Reprise OG
Bill Evans Trio On a Froday Evening Craft
Waiting for Columbus Mofi
I Robot-1977 Arista

James’ dad Larry is a pretty good storyteller as well…

@bkeske, you just reminded me that I need to track down McMurtry’s “Too Long in the Wasteland” on vinyl. I was managing a record store in 1989 when that came out and I had the cd on repeat in the shop for weeks!
