I received a pair of Chord Crimson Vee3 interconnects I won on eBay today from the UK. Bought them to run between my Nakamichi and pre. Well, as I’m awaiting some Audio Envy IC’s, to use between my phono pre and pre, I decided to try out the Chord IC’s until they arrive.

Man, these old Chord’s sound good. Most noticeably in the lower/mid bass punch, but overall very nice. Hope the Audio Envy’s sound this good :-D
@noromance

Yep, my initial reaction too. More lively, less ‘dead’. Slightly different soundstage and depth....more separation and definition. At least that’s my perception.

It’s hard to break from the ‘norm’, but may try this for a while.

I know one thing, the SOTA clamp seems to really ‘deaden’ the play more than my much less expensive Record Dr clamp, which I’ve been using for the last few days, which seems in between the SOTA and none.
In the process of obtaining more of Joni’s earlier albums on vinyl. Two more arrived today. First up....

Joni Mitchell - For the Roses. Asylum reissue 1974, originally 1972

The Trolls

I believe I have a Trolls 45. They became a bit popular ‘again’ during the punk/new wave days of the late 70’s-early 80’s.
@boxer12

Not to muddy the cartridge water anymore but... ebay had a Grado XTZ signature (NOS) a couple weeks ago for around $700.

I haven’t really checked much on eBay. I’ll check it out boxer, thanks. Always heard great things about the XTZ, but have never heard one. As a Grado ‘fan boy’, that would be interesting.

Im in contact with the guy on US Audio Mart about his Soundsmith Zephyr. He said he would contact me tomorrow as he had guests for dinner.

I was going to take it slow on a ‘new’ cart, but that is a great deal as it was just rebuilt. Too good to pass up. And 2.5mv, so I would not have a hard time using it with my current equipment.

If that doesn’t work out, for some reason, there are more fish in the pond. And other good deals to be had.
Now for something different....and one of my fav’s of all time....

John Mayall - Jazz Blues Fusion. Polydor 1972
The Nash Ensemble - The Chamber Music Of Malcolm Arnold - 1. Hyperion 1986
@slaw

Eels "Wonderful, Glorious" sides 3 & 4.

Man, would love to hear my Eels (all on CD) on vinyl.

Wasted 4 hours of my life taking half the lawn tractor to pieces just so I could refit the main drive belt.

@uberwaltz

Oh the joys of having a postal stamp size yard 😁

I remember those days growing up with 2 acres to mow. I got to know the John Deere very well in my youth.

The Modern Jazz Quartet - The Last Concert

Excellent. Only have that on a CD set. Should really look into getting it on vinyl.

Edit: just purchased a vinyl set on Discogs. ;-)
Blues Breakers - S/T w/John Mayall, Eric Clapton, and John McVie. Originally recorded 1966. London reissue 1977
@noromance

@bkeske How's the 850?

Fantastic. Easy to deal with, adjust, etc. I just don’t have anything I can directly compare it to, so it’s tough to say it’s better or worse than another, but in total, I would say it was a good choice. That’s why I was counting on you and others to point me in the right direction.

Although, fooling with some VTA adjustments tonight, I do wish it had ‘on the fly’ adjustment. But, USA HIFI has the Easy VTA device for $200, which is very tempting. I would have to get some bushings to raise it though, as it wouldn’t clear and be free of the plinth without. Important with the SOTA, but doable.
Sir John Barberolli conducts Grieg’s Peer Gynt. Halle’ Orchestra. Angel 1969 (?)
@uberwaltz

You got the SOTA up and running already?
Nice!!
How is the Jelco on it?

Yep. Messaged you, but have a feeling that message has been temporarily lost by the Audiogon gremlins.

The arm came Sunday. Included fastening bolts were too short for my board. Found longer ones, installed, balanced, adjusted, put the Grado on it for the time being, more adjustments....yadayadayada. Spent all last night listening...tweaking...listening.

Sounds fantastic. The Jelco was actually pretty easy to set-up. Not fussy at all.

All in all, a very very nice combo...incredibly pleased....now for the Soundsmith to arrive.
@slaw

I missed your posting brother.

Aw, thanks man. Missed you guys too, but not as bad as missing my system 😁

and it was only a couple of days.....
Just got back from being out of town the last day and half, and, finally, getting to play some music...

Neville Marriner/Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields : selections by Wagner, Faure, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Dvorak, & Boccherini. Angel 1980

Good to listen to some vinyl after streaming in the car.
Sir Adrian Boult conducts Vaughan Williams - Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, Partita for Double String Orchestra. London Philharmonic. Angel 1976 (actually a quadraphonic recording 😮).
Zubin Mehta and Pinchas Zukerman with the Los Angeles Philharmonic - Bruch violin concerto #1, Lalo Symphony Espangnole. Columbia Master Works, originally 1979, but this seems to be a reissue.

really nice recording and performance
@mammothguy54

👍🏼👍🏼 Sounds like the condition of my old Mayall LP’s
Besides the buyer NEVER has to beware using PayPal.

Yep, I used PayPal, so had a feeling they would back down. Probably cost them less to offer at the original price than refund my money.

To you and @uberwaltz , glad you have dealt with them prior. They do seem to have a decent track record, I would just prefer a seller not play those types of games. It is very easy to get someone to cough up another $100 after they have committed to $1,000. I’m sure they ‘win’ those sales quite often.
The Butterfield Blues Band -  Sometimes I Feel Like Smiling. Elektra 1971
André Previn conducts Shostakovich - Symphony No. 5. Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Angel, I believe 1978.....or maybe the early 80’s per the label.
Karajan conducts Mendelssohn - Symphony 4 & 5. Berliner Philharmoniker. Deutsche Grammophon 1973
Karl Bohm conducts Beethoven - 9 Symphonien. Wiener Philharmoniker. 8 LP box set cycle. Deutsche Grammophon UK pressing 1972

Starting with1&2 and see where it goes.....have not listened to this cycle in a while.
