what pre for quicksilver v-4s

my pal bought v -4,s has no pre and no speakers, budget for pre 1500 tops . there is a sonic frontiers sfl 2 that is close by 4 hour drive round trip and no way to listen till i get home what do my fellow 'goners think and what else would you try thanks mitch
