Later model Playstation 1 as CD player?

Much of the talk about using older playstations for a CD player seem to be based on the original model. I have the later compact white version (Model SCPH-102 in Australia) with external power supply and multi-AV out only.

Are these later models also considered good CD players, or is it primarily the original model (SCPH-1001) that people talk about?

The PSOne which you are referring to is a vastly different Playstation model than the Model SCPH-100X often cited in audiophile forums and Websites. A decent history of the Playstation's development is found here:

The audio on that model is nowhere as good as the SCPH-100X's sound quality.
