iTunes + Amarra vs high-end CD players

Can iTunes+Amarra compete with high-end CD players as far as sound quality if I use AIFF files (ripped with XLD) and a good outboard asynchronous DAC like the HRT Streamer II?

Would the overall quality be on par with, say, a Yamaha CD-S1000?

Depends on the Amarra version. This is the best one I have found so far:

Also, you will need to do these tweaks to the Mac:

The USB port that you use is also critical. Mac Mini late 2009 with SSD and Snow Leopard is a good choice.

All of these guidelines are documented, so you can follow the instructions.
