I have an RB-991 driving Vandersteen 2 Ce and I thought of upgrading to the 1080 but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle. It's not enough of an upgrade to warrant the sale of your amp. An upgrade like a McCormack DNA-1 would be a noticeable difference. It also depends on the rest of your equipment like the preamp and source components.
