fiber optic digital output.

Please advise. I have an Onkyo Integra cd player, about 5 yrs old, built like a tank. It has a fiber optic digital output jack on the back. My question: can I use this output to go to seperate converter? if so, by hooking up cable, does it disconnect converter inside unit? Please forgive if this is like a "WHAT"! question as I am new to this.
Thanks Rick.

Yes you can use the toslink to connect to a DAC. You will be sending a digital signal to the DAC. It will then convert it to analog.

Yes you can. No it doesn't disconnect the internal Dacs. You can A-B them (both outputs working) ....... I did and never used my internal dacs again. Any decent quality outboard dacs will probably yield much more detail and ambience.
