DVI-HDMI...

would prefer to use a premium cable outfitted as such or a premium after-market cable/connector?

Beware using an adapter on the HDMI end. The DVI is plug is too heavy for the HDMI female to support. You can ruin the connector. This is a very common problem.

Use a cable that is DVI at one end and HDMI at the other.

I use a Verastarr cable for this which was a great improvement over the 'stock' cable I purchased at a so-called 'high-end custom installer'.
