I say go for the acrylic--less undamped resonance. Let us know how it turns out, there are problems in this project that will be interesting to solve.

You want to use Acrylic, thickness is very important for motor alignment etc. The Plinth can be machined to any configuration you want. This is best done on a CNC. The Platter can be 1" or thicker and this also should be done on a CNC machine. Send me your e-mail address and I will forward photo's of Acrylic Plinth and Platter if you like.
