While I cannot comment specifically about the Carver 2000 Receiver, I owned and enjoyed a Carver MXR-130 for nearly 30 years. It eventually died because of internal parts wear-and-tear, but was a stellar performer while in its hey day. In fact, I brought the MXR-130 in to Audio Breakthroughs in November 2015 so as to compare it against other amps I was in the market for. Even the dealer (not a Carver dealer mind you) commented how good it sounded and how it held its own (albeit was dusted) against modern and far more expensive gear. So, if I were to draw an inference to the 2000 you are considering, I'd say it really depends on the condition of it. $500 cdn is still a bit pricey for that piece. Perhaps negotiate downward a bit a go for it.
