3.5mm headphone to Speaker

I have Stax headset and McIntosh MA2275 with phone output. Is there an easy way to connect my headset (which would normally be wired to speaker output to Stax 'amp' to headset) so that I can run the headset directly from the phone output with the speakers muted?

You currently have an electret passive driver which is simply a transformer and fileter.
You will need to purchase STAX active driver that connects to tape output(volume independed) so you can turn volume down on your amp.
