Looking for a Warmer Sounding Phono Cartridge
It was mentioned already but based on the OP's goals my thoughts go immediately to a Benz.  The LP/LPS or Ebony series fit the bill and are frequently available here from Euro or Asian sellers for less than retail.  The LPS is outstanding, classic...
SPEC+ Analog Disc Sheet AP-UD1 TT mat anyone else have this?
Yes!  I have one now on my SL 1200GAE.  Big upgrade over the stock mat or bare platter.  I hear a more lively sound as well, but not in an exaggerated or forced way.  There is more space or as you said air in between things, more like you are hear...
Auralic Aries Mini vs Bluesound Node ll vs Sonos
chrshanl37 - I recently purchased the Aries Mini and I really like it.  This is the first streamer I've used so I can't comment on sound quality or functionality as compared to the other products you mentioned.  But it was easy to set up, easy to ...
Music Hall MMF 7.1...cartridge options?
Agree with Ehaller and Tketcham . . . I have virtually the same set up. MMF-7 is a pretty good turntable for the money. The arm is the only weak link. The herbie's mat is a great upgrade. The speedbox is a great upgrade as well - made a positive, ...
Entry Level Cables
Mmm . . . audio asylum has a nice system for identifying dealers, manufacturers, reviewers, etc. Not hard to implement here either. Would eliminate the need for exchanges such as these.
how to clean nasty, dirty finger prints on LPs
Xctian,I think some of the reports of Windex being damaging to vinyl may be caused be the tendency of those who use Windex on their records to also use paper towels. The paper towel will leave behind tons of paper fibers which is quite noisy and w...
how to clean nasty, dirty finger prints on LPs
Windex. Just a bit on a microfiber cloth and rub the fingerprints gently. Follow up with a good rinse. This works well for me on used LPs where the fingerprints may have set in for a long time, mostly around the edges.
Walker Vortex Vacuum Wand for VPI
No experience with Mr. Walker or his products. It's nice to see people innovating and improving each other's products in audio. But as a VPI 16.5 owner who already thought $25.00 for a plastic replacement wand was a little ridiculous . . . well yo...
Does colored vinyl sound as bad as picture discs?
Stevecham - interested in your comments on The Who pressings. have you heard the classic pressings of Who's Next and Tommy, and what did you think? I have been thinking of picking these up, assuming they would be better than my US mca issues. anyo...
Deep Cleaning Records With Steam?
Tried this method tonight for the first time - results were EXCELLENT. Thanks to all who have posted information and advice. Opens up the sound and I hear more than ever before. As others have noted, it does expose the flaws or damage in an LP lik...
New Re-Issue Vinyl: Surface Noise, Ticks, Pops....
Audiofeil,What do you mean:"Perhaps the system, not the vinyl, is the problem for those who complain about poor quality. In this particular case, it appears to be a real possibility."?I didn't see anything in this thread about the posters' systems....
New Re-Issue Vinyl: Surface Noise, Ticks, Pops....
Wow. as I read this thread, I am listening to Brian Wilson Smile. not a reissue but a new 180g pressing on rhino. Bought it "used" but looked mint to me. ran it through the vpi 16.5 before playing it the first time. terrible! pops and clicks throu...
Herbie Hancock-Maiden Voyage
Second the suggestion of "Takin' Off". I believe it is his first session as leader and the rest of lineup is gold. I have a bluenote reissue that sounds great. My favorite HH record. I would also give "Headhunters" a listen. More fusion than "Maid...
Having trouble with my Pro-ject 9
Apologies if this seems too obvious - did the seller include the little weight on the fishing line? Not sure if you were referring to adjusting that or the big counterweight on the end of the arm. I've had two tables with the pro-ject arms and the...
Record cleaning Q's - brushes and fluid
Guys,Thanks for the responses. I'm going to check out the DD brushes and maybe pick up of the recommended paint pads or lint brushes just to give them a whirl. I'm sure they're just a few $ compared to the specialty record brushes. Oilmanmojo, wil...
