Bang for Buck Bi-wiried cables...
I would strongly recommend CLEAR DAY speaker cables.I just received mine and they sounded great just out of pack and are not even runned in yet.Paul is also an excellent seller who offered 30 days money back trial.

I was also troubled by an unshielded interconnect previously.So I added an copper braided shield which was gounded with a drain wire.The drain wire is then connected to a small DC battery and a 0.22uf capacitor.WOW!!the sound was fantastic very li... 
Tube rectification
I think it will better to have tube rectifier because it allows you to have an extra avenue to tweak the sound to your liking by trying out different brands of tubes. 
Hifi Tuning Fuses
I agree that HifiTuning Fuses definately improved the performance of my preamp to a new level;more detail ,more liveliness.I also noticed changing the polarity of the fuse by turning around also helps to change the sound,have fun experimenting!
