Thorens TD 166 hum
I tested all the other cables and all was good. The last thing I did was replace the 6ft RCA cable with a short 3ft one. The 3ft cable ends fit more snug on the seemingly smaller RCA inputs on the HK930.Success, hum is gone! The 6ft cable ends fit...

Ok, I redid some of my continuity tests on the tone arm now that I saw where the grounding screw was on the arm.I measured from the ground tab on the Shure and the screw at the back of the arm and I get 2 ohms.. I tested from the headshell collar ...
Thorens TD 166 hum
I have not removed the grounding clip as unless someone with a Thorens TP 60 headshell or a TP 11 tonearm has done this to solve the mid volume hum, I don't think it will solve anything. The headshell is metal, aluminum I think, but due to the way...

Akai 4000ds vs 4000ds MKii head block
Got the 4000db head block, compared it to my 4000ds block, wire-wise, they are the same. I spliced the DS connector onto the DB block for the erase/record heads, soldered the playback wires to the PC board (no connector on DS model) and did a test...
Akai 4000ds vs 4000ds MKii head block
From the schematics, they look similar, but it is hard to trace with the scanned drawings, can't tell if some are connected or some just cross. I was hoping someone already had experienced this type of repair and had some input.
