Revel Performa B15 Sub
I heard a pair with the Performa L/C/R and rears at CES. Perhaps the best HT demo I've heard. The bass was firm and full. Excellent.
converting standard cable to balanced
You cannot convert the cable since standard cable has only a single lead plus the shield and balanced cable requires, at least, 2 signal leads (+ and -) and a ground lead. While you can add a transformer at each end to connect your cable to balanc...
Biamplification in Mid-Fi?
1. There are no off-the-shelf active crossovers which will exactly match the needed parameters for the speakers. The only exception is the active powered option for the Paradigm Reference speakers. 2. In view of the above and in general, buy bette...
I square S
I2S was defined by Philips for connections between chips in digital devices like CD players. It was not intended for use as an interconnection between transport and DAC since the definition was primarily of the signal logic. It was later adapted b...
Problems using both XLR and RCA inputs?
What does the amp's manual say? Is there complete switching between its two inputs? If not, one will shunt the other even if only one source is on.
McCormack amp upgrade / midbass warmth?
Yikes! What i meant to say is that the Rev. A DNA-1 is NOT forward in the midbass. It does not lack warmth. I prefer it to the DNA-225. BTW, I have heard that late-production DNA-1s had reliability problems related to the PCB used. This is hearsay...
McCormack amp upgrade / midbass warmth?
"He mentions that the DNA Rev. A upgrade, although being a significant overall improvement, resulted in smoothing out the midbass warmth of the stock design." Smoothing does not mean that the Rev. A lacks warmth, only that it is forward in the mid...
CD Players that transmit 24bit/96kHz
DVD-A and DVD-V are both playable on new DVD-A players since all these seem to be of the 'universal' type. DVD-A will not play on the large installed-base of DVD-V players. Moreover, it is unlikely that any of the major labels will permit the non-...
Stax F-81: Make a great speaker better?
I wish I could find my original notes. I have the formulas but would have to run the calculations all over again. Basically, it takes an opamp (per channel), 3 resistors and a capacitor to set-up the bandwidth limited boost to match the amplitude ...
Stax F-81: Make a great speaker better?
The problem with using any sub is the interface. Since the F81 has a significant amplitude suckout in the mid-bass and peak in impedance at 200Hz, one must compensate for both of these in order that adding a sub does not make things worse, as it u...
Stax F-81: Make a great speaker better?
Don't do it. The only mod I found effective was a compensation filter for the mid-bass suck-out. The filter makes the F81 quite flat but power handling is compromised. Use the filter plus a sub to solve that.
CD Players that transmit 24bit/96kHz
No CD player can do that since CDs only work up to 16bit/44.1kHz. Some DVD players will output 24/96. Add the Meridian 800 to that list.
