Best 5 Channel Amp
I don't know what speakers you are using but an excellent bargain for a five channel amp is the Sherwood Newcastle 9080. The aamp is rated @ 120 watts per channel/8 ohms and 170 watts / 4 ohms. I use it to drive five Magnepans with much sucess. Yo...
Receiver vs Processor
I would suggest that you check out the Sherwood Newcastle Home Theater Processor(AV9080). Audiogon has some listed for under $500.00.Check the Sherwood website for their new updated processor also.
HT - Which processor
Try the Sherwood Newcastle 9080-series H/T preamp/ processoralong with the matching 9080 5-channel amp. Smarthome.com is selling this combo for $1500 right now. Check with audiogon dealers and you may beat that price! Believe me, it will be worth ...
Bi-amp with multi-channel amps in H/T
Thanks for the suggestions, gentlemen. Since my first posting, I've added the Maggie center channel and a Paradigm PS-1000 sub to the setup, but I haven't bi-amped yet. The multi-channel amp is the Sherwood 9080, which has done a fine job driving a...
Mid-Fi Amp/Preamp for Martin Logans
If your definition of "mid-fi" means cost below, say, $2000 for H/T separates, consider Sherwood Newcastle 9080 series (although the new 9090AVP pre will be out this fall).I'm using the 9080 with Magnepans all around with good results and I'm famil...
Best Receiver under $1200 (new)?
I strongly recommend the Sherwood Newcastle 9080 separates instead of a receiver. You can find this combo for under $1200 if you watch Audiogon or other sites.E-mail me if you need more info.
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
I've been using magnepan MG1's for about 18 years. I just added Maggie MG3a's for H/T fronts and my trusty MG1's as surrounds. They aren't going anywhere anytime soon!
Vinyl or wait for the new stuff??
You will never regret having the classic experience of vinyl. I still enjoy throwing an old "disk" on the turntable and relaxing with music from the 60's on up!
SONY WEGA and component video .........
I have a friend who has given up on using DVD with her 36-inch Sony Wega. She does not like the letterbox format so VHS will be the mode for watching movies.
What's happened to AUDIO magazine????
Has stereo review or any other publisher stepped up to the plate and will replace Audio magazine's annual equipment directory?
Acurus versus Bryston, Classe, Etc.
Thanks for the info on Acurus. I will be using Magnepan MG3's for the front and MG1's for the rear.No center or sub yet. My entertainment priorities are (1) Vinyl-Linn LP12 (2)Home theater (3) CD's.Basement room W/carpet is 25 x 10 X 8.
Cincinnati, OH, any audiophiles?
Another excellent hi-fi shop in the Columbus area is Genesis Audio(Gahanna,Ohio). They carry many of the top brands- Levinson, Revel, Sound Lab, etc.- and guys like Art, Chuck and Steve are longtime audiophiles who still love "vinyl"! Check out ww...
What's happened to AUDIO magazine????
I too agree that SOMEONE should keep the October Buyers Guide tradition going. My library includes the last twenty years of them. I'll go into withdrawal this fall.HELP!
