Why Don't More People Into Music Reproduction At Home Play Around With Musical Instruments
Our music room is littered with instruments. Horns, strings and guitars, and all are used and enjoyed. Not sure which is more gratifying on a given day; Marshall and Ampeg stacks or our McIntosh stack.
Ever feel like a "low dollar" customer that your dealer doesn't think worth their time?
I go back to the days of the old Audio Lab in Harvard Square when a salesperson was as likely to share a puff or two and sell you whatever he had or whatever you liked. The existing Audio Lab, now in a different location is very hit or miss but ge...
Mcintosh xr 100 speakers
I have xr100's that I'm veryhappy but not ecstatic about. The xr50's are great though.
Who needs a tuner?
I listen to local FM classical and jazz more than other inputs. We have more than a few stations in the Boston, Ma area. I find it easier and informative with the occasional narrative about what's playing.

speakers with balls
Vintage Altec-Lansing Voice of the Theater. Big bottom cabinets, horns on top.

I'd second McIntosh and add any vintage Thorens.
Dealers That Sell Large Volumes of Used Gear Online
Spirit is a nice little shop in Northampton, Ma. Bought from them a long time ago. Recent purchases from Audio Classics in Vestal, NY were all completely first class in every respect. Would buy from them again.
Tips on dealing with audio dealers
Try Audio Classics, Vestal NY. I've recently bought amp, 2 sets of speakers and media server from them (all Mac) remotely and was extremely well served both in service and price. I'd go back to them. Mike Sastra was most accommodating and excellen...
Best speakers under $500? Fire away!
I'll second the post for Paradigm 20 or 40 Studio v's. They fade next to XR50's and 100's but are still sweet and (used) are easily in this range.
McIntosh MAC6700 Stereo Receiver or MA6700 Integrated Amp
I've been looking for reviews/comments on the 6700 for a while and just found this thread so thought I'd contribute. I recently upgraded my 30 year old Mc 5100 and MR67 to a 6700 with XR100's in large(er) room and XR50's in den. Older Paradigm Stu...
