Tube experts ---Chime In Do BK testers Lie?
B&K testers do not "lie", per se, but very few testers tell all of the truth. The Hickok and B&K's probably use different bias voltages, different test voltages, different frequencies of the test signal, and perhaps are testing different p...
VPI Scout to Scoutmaster upgrade options
I just did this upgrade. To make a complete turntable from the remains of the old, you will need feet, record clamp, and power cord. No real need to use clones of the feet, as the VPI feet were only $40. To use the JMW9 arm, you'll need the platfo...
Analog to Digital converter recommendation
The ubiquitous ART DI/O would work for this, but you'd need a pair of RCA to 1/4" phone plug adapters. Digital output is coax (RCA). You can select sampling rates of 44.1, 48, 88.2 or 96 KHz.

New to 'hi-end,' looking for budget CDP
If your Sony has a digital output, you can do a cost effective upgrade by going to an external DAC, and continuing to use your existing CDP as a transport. The ART DI/O is a steal (current low price is $123 or so at fullcompass.com). For more info...
How does one get off the merry-go-round?
I managed to stop for about ten years. I just reached a point where further upgrading would cost more than I could possibly afford at the time, and my system was working together well. So, I got off the bus, cancelled all of my magazine subscripti...
