Vpi Classic motor lubrication
THANKS all very much for the responses. Will consider.
VPI Classic Motor Lubrication
Thank you. A bit confused by your reply. VPI recommends lithium grease for the platter bearing. I wouldn't use that for the motor. What to use on the motor shaft is what I would like to know. Thanks for your reply though.
Signal Cable Spade Question

McIntosh and Brystons: Fair comparison ?
Davvie, I've heard both (Bryston/Mac) as well and couldn't agree more! See my post above if you like...What speakers were you using to compare amps?
New Magnepan 1.7 R
Luvwine,Good one...like the way you delineate between the two kinds of bass. Haven't thought about it exactly that way before. I too, think Maggie bass is exceptional...but there is no one perfect approach!
New Magnepan 1.7 R
Dividebytube,With due respect, it's a misconception that Maggies don't have bass. They can do bass very, very well with enough high-quality power. Mye stands also make a huge difference in bass response and overall quality.Enjoy.
Magnepan, How Low Can You Go...power-wise
Hi,I own 1.6s. 150 watts is not even really enough for the 1.6s, let alone 3.6s. It's not that they won't play or that they'll sound bad, but they won't really fully "blossom."Maggies love power, and high-quality power. They're not that expensive,...
McIntosh and Brystons: Fair comparison ?
Hi all,I've owned two McIntosh amps, both with autoformers. They are fantastic, IMO. Powerful, smooth, and undistorted. There's a lot of talk about how autoformers kill transparency or muddy the sound. Intuitively, one might think this is possible....
Weak ROTEL phono section
Thanks all. Thanks Almarg,I'm wondering if an outboard phono preamp might help. Success would depend on whether the phono output is higher than that of the Rotel.
Weak ROTEL phono section
Thank you for these excellent, helpful posts.I think you're both right, but I don't know, having to put the volume at 3 o'clock with such a "hot" cartridge doesn't quite add up. I'm not expecting "cd volume" but a little more would help.
Weak ROTEL phono section
Hi Zormi,Can I ask you...are you using the Rotel with the balanced outputs to your amp or the RCA outputs? Wondering if related to this. All my wiring is correct and I don't think it's the cartridge.Thank you much for your advice.Andrew
