Quality CD player to also serve as external DAC?
Why not just buy another inexpensive cd player (make sure it has a different digital out than your Sony Mega changer), and then by a separate DAC?Most DACs I've seen will accept inputs from more than one source. That way you could experiment with ...
7.1 vs. 5.1 - Meaningful difference?
I think it depends on the size of your room. I have a samllish room, so 5.1 fills things in nicely. If you have a large room and are able to put speakers 3+ ft. behind your listening room it may be worth your while.DVDs that are "encoded" in Dobly...
Anthem AVM30 vs's Statement D1
I had an AVM-20 and D-1 to compare, so it is almost the same. The D-1 has superior DAC/s built in, so there is no need for an outboard DAC. I was using a Musical Fidelity A 324 DAC fed through the direct outputs with the AVM-20, and the By taking ...
Help Surround decoding formats.
Dolby Pro Logic IIx is the latest/greatest thing. Sometimes its just called Dolby IIx, but it will take any 2 channel or 5.1 and and create a 7.1 sound field.
is it an upgrade or just fun?
What was your rig doing on the roof where you work!?!But seriously, I think its all part of the fun. Seeing what else is out there, looking for ways to improve. Possibly finding the perfect combination!
CD to Apple Lossless, or CD AIFF Lossless?
In my opinion, you wouldn't gain any quality by ripping to AIFF first. You will just fill up your hard drive faster, which will lead to segmenting on your hard drive, which would lead to poor performance in the future.
Best way to go HT with focus on 2 channel
A home theater processor would normally take the place of your pre. Usually the home theater pre/pro controls your volume, processes the dolby or dts signal on the dvd and cable/sat box and handles base management - crossover points (also speaker ...
2nd sub for center channel ?
I'll second Slipknot1. There is a lot of info in the center channel, but its all dialog on DVDs, usually just vocals on 5.1 music recordings. It depends on your speakers and room size whether or not you would gain any benefit from 2 subs. If you se...
Best 7.1 pre amp used or demo for 2000.00???
I would look at Parasound C2 (for a little more money) or Anthem AVM-20 or AVM-30 is you could finsd one. I had a rotel1068 and didn't care foe the sonic signature of that model at all. I also had a Parasound AVC2500U and was very happy with that,...

A/V Receiver Recommendations Under 800.00
With A/V receivers, the feaures are some times as imortant as the sound, I don't think you can go too wrong with an Onkyo, HK or Denon unit. You have to make sure the model you pick has the correct amount digital, analog, S-video, RGB, DVI, or HDM...
Anthem processors: AVM20 v. AVM30 v. D1
I have owned the AVM-20 v2 (along with a Rotel 1068, and an Parasound AVC-2500) and traded up to the D-1, which I currently own. While there is a point of diminishing returns, I am very happy with my decision. While some of the feature sets are si...
Problem with bass managment with many universals-
Check out an Outlaw ICBM. You would just run all the channels as "Large" on your DVD and let the ICBM do the bass management. Its cross-overs are very configureable. You can run it between the DVD player and your pre/pro/receiver or if you have se...
What is " lowball"
Let's agree on one thing, if your item is resonably priced (within the market value range), and someone offers you 50%... thats a lowball offer. While I would reply "no thanks", I can see why some people would not want to even start negotiating the...
Home theater cabling question
Component always gives the best picture (unless you have DVI or HDMI), but if your monitor doesn't support it, I wouldn't bother upgrading to it. I don't think you will see any benefit by having the AVR convert the signal from component to s-video...
