Advice about what to do with not-needed tubes?
@Super390: Wow, a real post! I guess I invited the jokes with the title of the thread...Well, I can ultimately provide measurements, one way or another, and all but 4 of them are in original boxes. One of these years, I'll give it a shot, since th...
Advice about what to do with not-needed tubes?
Oh, and @Timrhu: certainly swapped the tubes. I think it may have been a loose tube socket, since that one rattled just a little bit when I tapped it. Or ungrounded wire, or wire touching the transformer. Seemed unlikely to be just a ground loop, ...
Advice about what to do with not-needed tubes?
Thanks for the responses. Until three weeks ago, I hadn't seen a vacuum tube since I was a ham radio operator 30 years ago as a kid. So, learning from scratch. Consensus seems to be that I'm not likely to recoup my investment easily. There's a guy...
Subwoofer while running bookshelves full-range
In case anyone with similar questions to mine Googles their way into this thread, I'll answer some of my own questions, based on obtaining an SVS SB-1000. Although I started integration of the new sub from scratch, my ideal blending ultimately arr...
Subwoofer while running bookshelves full-range
Throwing this out there just for some opinions: In a very "hard" room full of compromises, 2500cft, at moderate volumes, cutting off at 60Hz, does sub quality even matter as much, between "acceptable" and "awesome"? Most of what I'm reading is abo...
M-Lores or Aon 3: bass/imaging
Yeah, as noted above, my conclusion was really that I'd need to take them home to judge. Too bad I'm too far away to do that easily. But side by side, and presumably broken in in their show room, they were leaner in the mids by intent. I happened ...

Mapman,Yeah, I realized my mistake shortly after posting. Somehow "Danish girl" doesn't sound as funny to me, though, and I don't seem to be able to edit the post anyway...
M-Lores or Aon 3: bass/imaging
For the benefit of people like me who Google into the middle of threads, I thought I'd record my impressions of my speaker comparisons. I'm a newbie compared to most members here, so this is mainly intended for the Googleverse, as well as it just ...
M-Lores or Aon 3: bass/imaging
TonyAngel,Since I haven't owned floorstanders (at least, not since college, when I wasn't paying attention), your experiences between the two are informative. Sounds like there's no mystery to it.Placement in this room is fixed: 1' or less from si...
M-Lores or Aon 3: bass/imaging
I'm still curious on a "philosophical" level, I guess, about an aspect of floorstanders versus bookshelves. At the same volume level and putting aside frequency response range, is there something qualitatively different about the two types of spea...
M-Lores or Aon 3: bass/imaging
Thanks for all the great feedback. And the winner IS::: Both are great speakers! 'Course, I knew that, but I'm very glad to hear more first-hand accounts and it does seem like I would be satisfied bass-wise with either, since my goal is, to put it...
