What was your most engaging audio experiance
Hope this does not bore everyone. I prefer vinyl, but my most engaging experience by far was listening to a Beethoven string quartet sourced from an unmodified Harman Kardon dvd 47 player through a Sherwood 8000 4 tube receiver thru AE1 speakers, ...
Harman Kardon DVD 48
No responses, not surprised. I have a 47 and think it's astonishing, especially for the money. Use an adapter so you can put on a good power cord. I'd bet on impressive results.
Looking for some Art Pepper recommendations
Memory is hazy but there is great Pepper on a Pacific Jazz record with Hoagy Carmichael.
Sonic Frontiers Power 2 Amp - tubes
Many manuals free on line. Try sonic frontiers, but also parts connection. Hope it works.
Vintage integrated Amps. What to look for?
My suggestion: Sherwood, integrated or receiver. Often on ebay, very musical, full but airy.
Quad 2805 reliablity? Distance from wall needed?
This is not a professional response but I placed some panels behind my 63's that seem to radiate the back wave and make for very good sound with them around 2 feet from the back wall.
Where next after Eico HF-12's?
Have you tried rolling various nos tubes? Can give you more of what you're looking for.
Best Louis Armstrong LP to Start With?
Strangely enough, on my system the Echoes of an Era with Armstrong and Ellington is about as good as it gets, usually used and barely played if at all for around $6.
BASIS Superbelt / Regular Belt
Superbelt is indeed super. Changes the sound so the record sounds like a mastertape. Incredible.
Best pressings I've heard
Try Reader's Digest Gilbert and Sulllivan excerpts, basically the sound of Faust on RCA.
Which is your fav Beethoven String Qt version?
Talich quartet on CD, very thoughtful with sound that sounds like them, try Op.59, #3. Bartok qt on LP.
78 RPM - Potential for better sound than digital?
For what it's worth, there is nothing like the impact and body of a 78, but they are heavy, fragile and a pain. One three minute side, though, is worth 25 of an lp or 75 of a cd in terms of musical truth.
Upgrade from Old Basis Ovation
Call Basis, you will probably speak with AJ, he'll tell you about his new belt. Believe every word. Makes a huge difference for less than $100. And he is great to talk with.
