Hi. I went to eric's shop and got permission to make a little video where eric talks about the lore. I dressed it up with windows video maker. I Thought it might be of interest. just check out you tube. search under tekton lore. I did not have any real professional equipent just a $70 video camera and windows video maker.
I read an older review on a tekton subwoofer. Like it said. It's older, but it kinda showing a tekton trend. Good prices for amazing sound. Here is the link if you re intrested.

I actually used to work with Eric twelve years ago when he was the lead sound engineer at Kimber Kable. Well many, many, years later I bumped into him again and we started talking. Anyways to make a long story short. I wish my video camera had more details. The paint job is great. I also got to sit down and listen to the Lore. They sound very nice. He didn't scrimp on the tweeter either. If you notice it's an audax for the high freq. I looked at madisound and they are $108 a each.

On a funny side note. I also worked with Sean from Zu 12 years ago. Sean was the sales person for Kimber at the time. Really nice guy.

I've had the luck to hear both companies products.
Hi. I'm hoping to get some help. I tried posting on another forum but no response so far. I went and heard both the mini lore and the lore at eric's shop a few weeks ago. It was fun, I had a good time listening to the speakers. There is suppossed to be a review in the works, but nothing has materialized yet. I am a fan of eric's work and am a little biased I think. I really want to hear what a professional reviewer thinks about these 2 new models. I've bugged him a few times myself about getting some reviews sent off. Perhaps if there are any other tekton design fans out there they might send him and email. Perhaps if he gets a few more request we may get a review soon than later.
Eric showed me the frequency response and they looked very good. The mini lore also fasinates me. The size seems to be almost perfect for my listening room. I did not get to see the fr on the mini lore, but they sounded nice, and the price seems nice also. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Have you heard any of zu products??
I'm still bugging Eric about getting a pro review done. Has anyone else emailed or talked to Eric about when one is going to appear?
Hi. I need your help kind of. I can't seem to get onto tektondesign.com my internet service provider says they can't either. Also it does not seem to work on my phone.

At my work I can see the site just fine. I called tekton and they seem to be able to see it also. So I was just wondering if anyone else had had any issues! It could be my isp is goofing up.

Also if you can get onto the site I went down and shot some extra video at tekton and made a new intro video.
Took me a minut to find it also. It' not in the product reviews section. It's in this sub section.

Also new pics of the lore in red and white. Also an unamed new design on the blog

Hi. I thought I would pipe in. It's no secret I'm a fan of tekton. I've actually done some art work for Eric and done some recent videos. But let me take a step back for a moment. I'm also a hobbiest speaker builder. I am by no means a professional builder, but it is relaxing and fun. I've only been building speakers for 3 years or so.
So here is my personal take on speakers in general.

1# Measurements are very important. They are a scientific and mathimatical way of double checking what I'm doing. They really help when I'm am building crossovers. Doing it by ear alone is very hard to do. Well, for me impossible. I also use mathematics to determine box, port, and stuffing size.

2# Everyones ears are built a little different, and so we have to have a way to determine certain things. My ears certainly hear subtle differences that vary from others. An even playing field is very important, again accurate measurements help that.

3# Rooms are different, again measurements really can help.

4# Choosing the right combo of drivers to work together is also important. In my opinion no crossover / box size can overcome a bad combination.

#5 Experience. No matter what design I come up with Eric has some extra knowledge that improves my design and overall sound.

#6 A flat response does many things, but one important thing it does in my opinion is to make sure that a certain frequency is not out of kilt/over powering another frequency. In otherwords it makes the speaker sound more natural. Now if I'm watching a movie and want un-realistic thumping of bass to rock my seat then sure. Give me the BASS!!! But if I want a more realistic / believable representation of the band being the room with me then a flatter frequency response is a key component. In my humble opinion.
I think you need both hearing and real hard science behind your work.
Of course in the end, if you are happy with your speakers then that is what is important. For me I build a set enjoy then and then build another just for fun. There is no end. Kind of like any other hobby. For some people it's cars, computers, boats, skies etc.. You get the idea.
Back to tekton. Having done some work for Eric. It's always exicting to see his passion, and continual struggle to make a speaker even better. That is hard to find sometimes.

it's all about he sound baby!
I asked Eric. The the review is for the m-lore. But you are right the first pictures shows the m-lore, and the other 2 are are the lore. I wonder if the reviewer was just showing the different products.
Anyone here a speaker builder? My favorite thing to do is to find lost gems that sound better than the price might indicate. I am currently building a set for a friend. I actually am using the same tweeter used in the m-more. Very nice for the price and also using a low cost 10inch woofer. My friends is on a budget and so far the system sounds great. He came over and listened to it. He said his brother just bought a bose system and the setup I'm building just blows away his brothers system. I know! Most of use know Bose just is not very good. But it was neat to see a non audiophile hear a non box store set of speakers and hear the difference.

I shot a frequnecy response yesterday and the crossover does need some refinement, but so far so good.
Here, here Wsifu!

And a quick response to Cwazz. It is true that some people can be over exited about a product. But I wll say that I've heard several speakers. And with out a doubt the lores or m-mores, and I've heard both are really very good for the money. Not that there are not other products that sound great at that price. But there are some pretty expensive speakers that in my humble opinion are over priced for what you get. I'm glad though that you are an owner and have personal experience with an opinion as opposed to someone who has an opinion on the sound without the experience of the speaker.

On building speakers it's addictive. Even if you build a great sounding speaker that you would be really pleased with keeping. There is always something about trying something different. Or seeing what you can do to improve. Much like owning a speaker. There is no perfect speaker.
Hi. I got hear the Pendragon's last week. It is to bad we all don't live close enough to get a demo.

I think anyone hearing them would really enjoy them and give them a big thumbs up :)

And I yes I think they would compete with speakers costing much more. I've heard some pretty expensive ones.

But I will say this. They are definatley bigger and may not be for every room. When you walk into the that is what you would notice.

My listening room is simply too little for a speaker that size. So, I would rather have the lore or m-lore for my setup. Great sounding yes! Has the bass, Yes! Price point for what you get wow! wow! wow! Size, big for my room size.

As for the finish. I agree the standard finish is not typical of many hi fi speakers.

In speaking with Eric you realize that what he is trying to do is to bring top quality sound at an affordable price point. So the looks may not be quite as interesting as some other products on the market, but the sound is there and more :)

PS I am almost finished with my latest project. I shoot some picturs when I'm done. I hope to do at least 2 more speaker projects before it gets too cold or snow outside. I love the cold, but without a garage my speaking building is limited to the summer.

We need a new thread. Great sound speakers for under $3000. Just Joking
I think we should also remember the original question. Best floorstanders under $999 for low power SET amp?

For 1 grand the lores ares a heck of a buy. As a matter of fact Tekton could have have charged much more.

So, I just want to say thanks Eric for making such a great sounding speaker at a very reasonable price.
Affordable amp that I am going to try. Next time I go see Eric I am going to take my Dayton DTA-100 T-amp. If was $50 as a scratch and dent. What a bargin. Sold out though. I should have bought 2. I also have a the original my sonic impact. The DTA definatley has more oomf!

I am wondering how the pendragons or lores will sound with the cost effective t-amp. I'll post my thoughts once I hear them hooked to the pendragons or lores.
Sounds like you have some extra cash to put into an amp, but if you were cash strapped like I am most of the time. I purchased the parts express dta-100. Mini Tri Amp 100watts. It sounds great and work really well with high sensitivity speakers.

I know you probably want something better, but I thought I would throw it out there. For the price I am impressed.
I read your personal review Eboleyn. I thought comparing some small speakers to very large speaker seemed a little interesting. Imaging for small to large speakers can be different simply because of the mass compared to the room size. It's kind of like comparing a motorcycle to a ferrai. Both can do the job they are meant to do, but obviously they are very different.

Nice job though. Glad to hear you are enjoying them. Keep up the reviews.

P.S. Pictures seem to be fixed on the mini lore review.
anyone here make to the audiofest 2011. saw they had the new def mk iv. not sure i could ever justify the price but wondered how it sounded.
I spoked with Eric the other day. He didn't give me all the details, but he does have something planned for black Friday, or cyber Monday. Not sure. If I find out I'll post back
I believe it's supposed to fill virtually all of the Lores benefits at a lower price. I don't think the Lore is going to go on sale again. That is what Eric seemed to allude when I spoke to him.

I would be interested if it indeed did have a little lower extension. I have not heard the speaker yet though. I hope to in the next few weeks. Perhaps when I get a day off I'll make the drive.

Eric emailed me a few days ago and knows I like doing videos and stuff as a hobby, and I said sure it would be fun to make one.

Anyways that is all know :)
For those of you who listen to talk radio you might get a kick out of this. Glenn Beck an national radio host has a pair of tekton lore s. I guess he liked them so much he did a quick spot on tekton.

It is on tektons web site.
