Is it time for a phono stage?
Not tube, but I have really enjoyed my Musical Fidelity kW phono stage (there's one for sale here now, no affiliation with seller). It replaced and edged out an Avid Pulsus which I also quite liked. Both of these I liked considerably better than t...
Is DEQX a game changer?
Thanks for that info Al. Very impressive considering how resolving the Star are known to be. Not to mention the removal of any room effects. Not much progress with my HD-4 of late. Played with the window for speaker correction and moved it to 600H...
Pass First Watt models ... confused
It will depend, amp by amp. The First Watt website should steer you well. As can the threads on DIY Audio, to which Pass frequently contributes. The 6moons reviews are also pretty informative. The info is out there.
Clear audio professional or klaudio record cleaner
And you'll want to find out the kHz of the Ultrasonics from the manufacturer. Makes a big difference according to threads on DIY Audio.
Is DEQX a game changer?
Quite the odyssey Al. Enjoy those new tubes! And how are you liking the DEQX as a DAC to your headphones, relative to other digital sources you have used with them?
stereo preamp $2-5K suggestions
Best linestage I've had in my system was the Musical Fidelity kW. You can google the Stereophile review. Uses 6112 tubes, and was the longest lasting component in my system by a long shot. With that preamp, I finally got the combined sonic benefit...
Crown XLS 1500
Anyone have a good source for Speakon speaker cables that are terminated in bananas or spades?
Townshend Rock, or Sota... Classical music
I am a huge Rock fan. The issues with the Rock 3 would concern me. But damn, a Rock Reference. Wow. This is supposed to be a mighty fine table. I have not heard SOTA. But I don't see the kind of raves for their tables that the Rock gets. I am not ...
What's your "diminishing returns" preamp choice?
It took a $2000+ preamp (Musical Fidelity kW) to give me what I felt combined the best aspects of the passive (detail) and active (bass impact, dynamics, oomph) preamps I'd tried previously. Prior to that preamp, there were more tradeoffs that had...
Crown XLS 2500 - the best amp value per dollar?
1extreme, I would also suggest that you try the XLS at various levels of gain. I also found mine to sound best at between noon and 3 o'clock on the dial. Easy enough to play with. And a lower gain setting on the amp gives you a more sensitive volu...
Is DEQX a game changer?
Many thanks as always, Al.
Is DEQX a game changer?
Many thanks for that great explanation and for passing along the recs you have gotten from experts on this matter. One thing I'd like some clarification on: You say: "In doing that I tried to set the lower frequency limit of the calibration above ...
Is DEQX a game changer?
Yes, thanks for the updates Al. In your most recent round of speaker calibrations, where did you cut off in the low frequencies? And in general, I'm curious what cutoff everyone made in the bass and how you arrived at that frequency...
Is DEQX a game changer?
I'd love to hear other folks POV on the cutoff frequency that worked best for their speaker calibration.
Is DEQX a game changer?
Thanks. I may try using some of the GIK panels to do something similar around the mic and compare that to the measurements without. Unless that seems like a boneheaded idea to some of you folks wiser than I.
