Yellow Brick Road Vinyl Reissues Issues
What was wrong with the original pressing? It sounds great on my system. I like the idea of the whole Elton John Band with Ken Scott and everyone there going over the final mix. I usually don't like remastered stuff, and once it's been digitized, ...
Your Wish List for Reissue on Vinyl
Well,I would rather have original pressings than any re issues. Most re issues I have heard sound like CD's pressed onto vinyl. The studios are remastering things on a computer and pressing to vinyl and it sounds like garbage. I may not have the b...
Vinyl. Is it me? the producer? cartridge? Record?
No doubt, a lot of these jazz guys can play. We saw Jean Luc Ponty recenty in Oakland and it was a real clinic. But the records are really over produced. To me it's like the difference between a photograph and a great painting. A little grit, grai...
Vinyl. Is it me? the producer? cartridge? Record?
Being a musician and one who has spent a fair amount of time behind a mixing console also, my ears might be a bit more sensitive than most.I spent a lot of time trying to get things to sound unnatural during the 90's exploring the possibilities of...
Vinyl. Is it me? the producer? cartridge? Record?
My feeling is that my system is simply more revealing than most of the studio monitors that these recordings were mixed on. Anything Ken Scott did sounds fantastic. He probably mixed records on similar monitors as did many other producers. There is...
Vinyl. Is it me? the producer? cartridge? Record?
They did have different engineers (Wired)Wired sounds a bit more trebley. Not quite a rich as wired.I have a couple copies of both.
Vinyl. Is it me? the producer? cartridge? Record?
Good points...I would love to just have a stack or different cartridges to swap out within seconds and listen to a variety of recordings doing so. A Goldring, a Grado, a Shure, and so on.. would be great to be able to do that with speakers as well...
Vinyl. Is it me? the producer? cartridge? Record?
I think any ear fatigue I get comes from the higher frequencies, not from the low end within reason. A crisp high end seems to really bring properly recorded records to a new level and really allows them to shine. But I do suspect high EQ was added...
Vinyl. Is it me? the producer? cartridge? Record?
I do respect a producer's decision on how they mix a record.Doesn't mean I have to like it. I wish I could hear Steve Hackett's guitar much more up in the mix on the live album "Seconds Out" I wish Van Halen didn't use so much compression on the d...
Vinyl. Is it me? the producer? cartridge? Record?
Not sure I made myself clear, but my top 30 out of 1000 probably have more to do with me liking the record front to back, and also owning a pristine early release copy...not a fake digital counterfeit pressed onto vinyl. My point is that regardless...
Biasing your Tubes to your Room
The output tubes are about a year old.. and the amp was properly restored by a well known professional.. however, he is over on the other coast.. so I am reluctant to send it over.My system has never sounded better than it does now.. so it's hard ...
Biasing your Tubes to your Room
I did explore that option, but in all honestly, it didn't sounds as good.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Janis Joplin "Kosmic Blues" (Got dem Kosmic Blues Again)Reminded me again how amazing Joplin really was. If you haven't listened to this recording in a while, you should. If you have never heard this record, you need to. It's one of the greatest Bl...
Vinyl lovers I must be crazy
Progress is nice but sometimes I crave for simplier times like the 70's.Well, I just bought a 71 El Camino street rod today with a big block 454, flowmasters, Holley 650, Dual exhaust chrome headers, you get the idea. Why did I do this? Craving sim...
Reel to Reel decks
However, if the objective is best quality music, then keeping it pure can actually limit the artistic flexibility of the musician/engineer/producer.I would only suggest that what would appear obvious about digital editing and endless effects and p...
