[Just for fun] Favorite Thread Derailleurs

As a long-time lurker on many audio threads I have come to enjoy the sheer number of times threads get derailed by "helpful" folks who recommend solutions wildly out of the OP's request. For example:

OP: I am looking for a pair of small desktop speakers for $1,000 or less that will blend well with my Sprout amp. Space is at a premium as I live in a small apartment. Thanks.

Derailleur 1: Magnepan 1.7s should be on your list. While too large for a desk, and quite a bit more than 1,000, they will shock you with their soundstage! Of course they are also difficult to drive, so you will want to upgrade your Sprout to something that is 2 ohm stable -- you should be able to find something here on the 'gon for under $2,000 if you look around.

Derailleur 2: Why are you getting speakers? Clearly headphones would be a better choice. The Sennheiser 820s can be had for only $2,500 -- a slight stretch, perhaps, but well worth it.

Derailleur 3: OP, you did not specify what color your walls are painted, what the surface of your desk is made from, and what kind of computer mouse you are using--all of these will interact with your speakers and can cause major differences in sound. I highly recommend you get a Taj Mahal Electro-Piezo Mouse Pad Isolator, which retail for only $899 -- opened the midrange response to a shocking degree in my system and highly recommended!

--you get the idea :)  Put your favorite in the comments below!

My favourite derailleur is of course the Raymond Bon Spirax ... but of course it depends oil your system :-)
Actually, the headphone recommendation was pretty good.  Opps, did I just derail this thread?

Campagnolo is the way to go with derailers. In fact, a complete Campagnolo Record setup will make any bicycle run more smoothly and precise. Campagnolo brakes are amazing. Just ask Greg Lemond.

Frank

Frank, the Record is on my wish list, if only for the tactile experience. : )
None of those have tubes, so I’m afraid they’re non-starters

Keeping it Campy. In keeping with the spirit of your thread. : )
An iron bar across the tracks makes a good derailer too.....

ps, please do NOT try this at home folks...….

You're thinking about this all wrong.

The way you need to cast is question is who are the posters who've led the threads off in unexpected yet fruitful directions.  Like what the comfiest chair to sit in is.

I wondered how long it would take to get THERE!
LMAO.

Medic!
Thread down!

😲😲😲
"Fruitful" .... waaaay too subjective.

Where's my ABX juice? Frank, can we spike it with some Vitamin V???
Some energetic music played on the system will significantly enhance your workout on the stationary bike positioned exactly equidistant from the two speakers.
Its like, one day everyone goes for a ride and its all nice and tranquil. Oh every once in a while a little snick, snick. But for the most part its all the soft fluffing of air and chain.

Then all of a sudden one ride CLICKCLICKCLICKCLICK holy crap those click shifters caught on fast!
This has turned out way better than I'd hoped 😂😂😂

Thank you all for playing along, Happy Thanksgiving to those for whom it applies. My Focal 926 are due tomorrow and I'm very excited--though I *might* have forgotten to tell my wife...
Derailleurs?!?  You've got to be kidding me!  You really must try a Rohloff internal geared hub with a Rohbox shifter to go with your brifters.  Keep all of the good stuff out of the way of grit, grime, and stuff.  You will thank me later!
Fine, but...

All future responders to this thread must first answer this simple question/choice in order that we can get a grip on where they are truly coming from.

Which is:

Pick (only) one as your favorite...

A. Ginger
B. Mary Ann
C. George Gobel

I pick C. George Gobel - flat out/hands down.

Geoffrey will (I assume) attempt to add Canoe to the list, but kindly just ignore him.

Rohloff...  Why not a (Planetary) Epicyclic Gear Train...to hop right over Uber's iron bar...
My derailleur made of one thousand coat hangers precisely twisted with a graphite shield will work at a molecular level to derail anything absolutely faster and better.Because I said so.

Just think how much better it would be treated with PPT TC and an Omega Plus mat in close proximity (will leave the builder to work out the details of mounting).
You want a 'derailleur', huh?  How about a car door opened in your path in traffic?  That's always good for a few contusions...at least.  Not to mention getting to meet strangers that didn't want to meet you either.

Continuing up the vehicular continuum, the oil patch or leaves in the path of your motorcycle's front wheel.  No 'high side', but getting to do the 'third base steal' move with the bike still betwixt your legs....into the opposite lane.

That's real entertainment, folks.

Unhurt, no oncoming traffic to complicate the situation, just a bent bar and a snapped turn signal stalk.  And a skid mark on my waist belt....

Best automotive 'derail':

Hitchhiked a ride in V'dub van....Driver looks right and barks "HolyShi" (doesn't finish, van rolls counterclockwise 4X loudly, stops on shotgun side)  No seatbelt, both my feet on the seat, left hand on headliner, right hand on shattered side window....

All I had was a small cut in the palm of my right hand.

The nice officer took my account of the incursion; the other car ran the stop sign.  The back of the van looked like a pair of enormous pliers had scrunched it into a wedge shape.

And I walked away, still 30ish miles from home.

There....does that count as a derailleur? *L* ;)

Two very large cardboard boxes on doorstep.

That'll derail a happy T-giving every time.

The other day, I picked up a hitchhiker.

After a couple of miles, he said ... "Aren't you worried that when you pick up  hitchhikers, you may be picking up a serial killer?"

I said: "No, because the chances of two serial killers being in the same car at the same time is very remote."

He had that look of derailment all over his face.

Absolutely awesome Frank.
Gave me some light relief from some  demented comments on other threads seen today
Thank you indeed!
Guy picks up a girl at a bar, offers her a ride home. Leaving the parking lot he turns and asks, "Which way?"
She points right.
"Aww, that’s a shame," he says. She looks at him puzzled and asks, "Why?"
"Well, because if you had said left then it could’ve been quite some time before you started to wonder. Now you’re gonna have to start getting terrified right away."
Can’t say she had a look of derailment on her face. But can you name the movie? Hint: Kurt Russell
^^^ And then he parked in the remote spot overlooking the city lights. He turned to the girl and said: "I’m going to tell you about the hereafter." She coyly asked: "What about the hereafter?" He said: "If you’re not hereafter what I’m hereafter, you’re going to be hereafter I’m gone."
And then he parked in the remote spot overlooking the city lights.
turned to her and said, "San Diego. Which of course in German means 'a whale's vagina'."

Sorry for going back on track... how gauche. :)

I'd estimate more than 75% of responses to OPs on this site are some form "you're doing it wrong". New threads are just an invite for the enlightened to show how their way is the right or only way.

My favorite is when you get 2 or more of them (high post counts are usually a good indicator) in the same thread trying to one up the other...regardless of the original question/problem. It's like watching a couple of T-Rex's flailing their tiny, useless, arms at one another.

The Focal 926s are installed and being mercilessly broken in. The Rega RS5s, which I have adored, are replacing the Ascend CBM-170s for L/R duty in the TV room. Peace and harmony are restored to the universe. Life is wonderful.

The wife, she still doesn't know 😱
Derailleurs are great! they can change your life and teach you something you never knew. if you want technical guidance go to where you bought that crappy thing! log on to their website and wait for support. or ask  the salesmen they'll tell you the truth for sure. audiophiles sometimes overthink about gear so i honestly think it's refreshing to be thrown off balance especially when they expect very specific answers. maybe that guy never tried hi end headphones and it will upgrade his listening experience? think about it if you always get the answers that you are expecting than how can you learn? many people here are expecting specific answers so if they don't get the "opinions" they like  they argue. like the other guy said many  answers are like: "you have it all wrong..."(which is true sometimes)but many crappy questions are like "please verify that i must buy x" or"this product is really crap right?"
My son-in-law is smoking a Turkey this year. He's really not too bright. I tried that once and couldn't keep the darned thing lit.

This is a public service announcement.
