I don't remember much, but I remember......
Great thread. First LP bought with my own money was The Allman Brothers "Live at the Fillmore East. Great album. The first CD.....Hmmmm, actually I don't remember. Dave.
Still need help for CD PLAYER .. please
I second the CAL Ikon. Could be had for less than $500 and you could begin saving for an integrated amp.
Seek Integrated for 1000 dollars, new / used, suggestions?
Classe CAP-150 or 151 (the 151 is the newer model....mainly cosmetic differences). These are both 150W/8 and are very neutral sounding. The CAP-80 (the 80W version) was formerly a Stereophile Class A integrated.
Monitor W. Subwoofer VS. Floorstander??
I agree with avgguy with the exception that you shouldn't overlook the REL Strata (one model below Storm), depending on room size. With any of them, allow it to break in and then you'll need to spend some time with crossover and volume. It's worth...
Review of HGA Silver Lace cables
SD, Thanks for the info.
Flood of Good Classic Rock Remasters
I've been looking for a long time to find rock that sounds really good. With the exception of a few DCC recordings, I find most rock music to be horribly mixed. I'll give some of your suggestions a try. Thanks for the info.
Any advise to improve my system
The MIT cables are the weakest link in your system though I don't believe they would create the problems you mention....if anything bass should be their strong point. A cable change may be worth a try anyway. Your speakers are more likely the prob...
Hi-End Business
Hi Paint, I wanted to post again because everyone, including me, appears to be so negative about your idea. As a disclaimer, let me state that I don't know the first thing about the demographics or competition you'd face in southern Oregon (though...
Coincident Super Eclipse and amp power
You may try calling or emailing Israel Blume at Coincident. He's great at responding to inquiries and should have a reasonable explanation/suggestion for you. Good Luck.
Hi-End Business
Go to stereophile.com and then to the Archives section. There's an article written in 1995 (I believe) that addresses exactly what you are looking to do. It's rather negative to the idea but if you're going to do this, you'll need to have your eye...
Classe CAP151 150 vs Plinius 8200 8150
I have the CAP150 and agree with Kipp. The Classe is a neutral to slightly warm amp if that helps. Unfortunately, I have not heard the Plinius integrated amps though Plinius typically gets great reviews. The important thing is what other component...
Amp for Sonus Faber GP?
I'd recommend giving a Classe integrated a listen as well. I use SF Concertos with a CAP 150 with great results.
separates for BW Natilus 804?
A Denon is a good choice if you go the receiver route. If your budget allows, you could buy a receiver with L+R pre-outs and add a separate amp for the front channels (also have flexibility to buy amp now or wait until you have the money). For the...
Surrounds for Thiel 3.6 system?
Though I'm not a big fan of Klipsch, you may want to give their center channel speakers a listen. They're slightly bright but clear....may match OK with your Thiels. For surrounds, my feeling is that you can get away with many different speakers b...
Help wanted in regards to monitors...
I've heard the Aerials, N805 and both SF speakers (I own the SF Concerto). I don't like Aerials in general though many others love them. I like the 805s. Paired with a Krell amp I thought the sound was terrific, very full from top to bottom. I bou...
