TUBE NOOB: WHAT BRAND
You're a piece of work-good luck with that. Bye.
TUBE NOOB: WHAT BRAND
'Honestl'-the OP received three fair and reasonable responses to his query, and then immediately jumped on his soapbox to decry the 'type' of response he was getting. Granted, the first three answers did not direct him to an exact model, type or y...
TUBE NOOB: WHAT BRAND
"What are you guys talking about?" Tubes are like every other component in the chain-except more so. Virtually every person you ask will have their own opinions, so it's ridiculous to demand to know 'the best'. Do some research, buy a set of tubes...
Low output moving coil cartridge
I agree with 'Almarg', but will make one more point, or maybe try to clarify: many phono pre stages have adjustable gain in order to more closely match a given cartridge's output to volume attenuation. Since, as a general rule, the noise floor wil...

Depotec-Let's see, top of the head...a) AcousTech PH1-Pb) Steelhead Phono Prec) EAR 834Pd) Klyne 7Px2d) the phono pre inboard on my BAT 3xiAll the outboards bested the BAT (as to be expected). I kept the Klyne and the EAR, but if I had to have jus...

Mapman-your cart output may be similar, but another quick search shows the SP-16 with a 55db phono stage gain. i.e., your preamp is different than the OP's, at least in regard to the gain at the phono stage. I have a lot of experience with the D10...
Low output moving coil cartridge
What's relevant in your situation is not the power rating of your amp, but the gain of your phono stage. A quick look seemed to show 66db gain, which is plenty for that cart. Should be no problem.

lateral move. Emphasis on 'at best'. It's no more than HP's latest marketing effort to ride whatever wave the audio blogs are surfing at any given moment. I'd suggest an idler, preferably a Garrard 301/401 (around 1k) if you can do some diy. Other...
I need a turntable, only have $450 to spare...
+ on the Technics in that price range. You won't be disappointed. You'll be able to resell for 350.00 when/if you decide to move up.
Killing sibilance distortion - VPI & Jubilee
Axelwhahl-All true. I was just reiterating what I'm sure you know (probably better than I) that one should never use the body of the cart for alignment, no matter which plane you're aligning. For instance, I often see VTA/SRA tutors telling people...
Killing sibilance distortion - VPI & Jubilee
Axelwhahl-the Mint protractor requires you to align zenith via the canteliver-not the cart body. Of course, one should always follow that model, no matter the protractor that's being used.

In order of appearance:a) verify that you've set the correct VTFb) try using absolute minimum anti-skate. On my JMW 12.5, I don't use the 'mechanical' anti-skate: I simply set it so that when balanced, the arm *slowly* drifts to the outside. I mea...
stock denon 103 vs. zu for my vintage rig
Narkleptic-I-and many, many others-believe the DL-103 has plenty of 'magic'. I'd start with the base model, look at some mods, such as here http://home.comcast.net/~omaille/audio/home.html, and when it's time have it retipped for a really nice car...
Help with Pioneer PL-707
"Would the table benefit from a professional refurbish?Depends-how much, and what's involved? If the service is a DeoxIT, and a check for leaky caps, that's something you can do yourself. If they're *very* experienced with this particular model, a...
