New Teres Direct Drive Motor Available as Option
Thanks Doug-As I said in the first post, knowing the Teres quest for quality, I assume a platter designed for an outboard drive would have a ring of alumininum/pvc/or etc because, at the very least, the drive will take the finish off of the wood. ...
New Teres Direct Drive Motor Available as Option
This discussion of business/marketing/sales has been truly, um, fascinating, but still no replies to what the 'Verus' option will do the finish of the Teres wood platter. I won't fully repeat my post, but any thoughts and or concerns? Will new own...
New Teres Direct Drive Motor Available as Option
Concerning the 'Verus', any thoughts about what it's use will do to the finish, and more long term, the wood itself, of the platter? I.e., a rim drive system engineered from the ground up would probably dictate a ring of another, more friction-tol...
Have anyone replace VPI SSM belt with string?
Yes, the floss I tried was waxed (that's what I had around :-) and I haven't tried the unwaxed. I'll buy some next time I'm at the drugstore and see what happens.Well worth the time to try this. I'll keep this thread tabbed to see the results of y...
Have anyone replace VPI SSM belt with string?
Yes, I have replaced the rubber belt with a string on my Aries 2. Belt tension is of course critical since you'll not have the 'gription' of the stock belt. Easily done with SAMA. I don't have the dual-flywheel motor, but I can certainly see the d...
Help Which re-tip best for denon 103R? Shibata?
I had a 103r replaced by VandenHul with his 'Type 1' boron cant and vdh stylus. Total cost-right at 325.00 including shipping both ways.Initial impression-much more detail in the higher frequencies, but with an accompanying steeliness that was alm...
Phono stage for Denon DL103R
Flyfisher-I'll reiterate. A Denon 103/103r will be fine with your jmw 9 arm. If you are at all concerned about the compliance issue, VPI sells a headshell weight for (I believe) 15.00, but I honestly don't think you'll need it. This is from my own...
Phono stage for Denon DL103R
Concerning Tswhitsel's concerns about compliance, don't be concerned. Both AT and Denon specify compliance @ 100hz rather than the otherwise-universally used 10hz, which puts the Denon at 9cu. That may theoretically make the JMW arm still marginal...
Tracking Force Gauges
seems to be the same, but only weighs to hundreths. However, less money, and seems accurate, etc. Shipping was very fast [1 week +/- ]http://cgi.ebay.com/DIGITAL-STYLUS-GUAGE_W0QQitemZ180000183049QQcategoryZ64620QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
AC vs DC motor?
'Motor' on over to Audio Asylum-Vinyl Division and ping Mark Kelly. The guy knows way more about motors that you'll need to know, and is kind enough to share his knowledge. He's done gobs of work with controllers, AC DC, etc., and will be able to ...
Goin nuts deciding which Scout upgrade
I moved up from the Scout jmw9 to the Aries 2ext./jmw12.5, and I got much more of a sonic upgrade from adding the SDS. Not that the new table didn't help, but if it's a solid foundationyou're after, start with the SDS. Also, you might look careful...
I'm New To Vinyl - Which Turntable Should I Buy?
Whoever above is saying used Scout, I agree. You're unlikely to find one with a jmw10, they ususally come with a jmw9. But they're a really good table, highly upgradeable. Since you need to get a phono stage anyway, get one with mc capability, [ap...
Possible stylus damage to my DenonDL103
Yeah, it's done. When the same thing happened to me,[103r, actually] I ordered another one from Audio Cubes, and sent the old one to Van den Hul for a retip. That way you have a spare, and can compare the two. As far as I know, Denon does not offe...
DEALER IN N.Y. TO UPGRADE SCOUTMASTER
My thoughts:Ceedees are always going to be more clear, more dynamic, have less background noise, etc. than l.p.'s. What vinyl brings to the table [har], at least for me, is more air around the notes, a more lifelike decay, a more lush, musical sou...
VPI SCOUTMASTER UPGRADE TO ?
Interesting story, and I agree 100% about vinyl vs. seedee.Saying that, however, it would be my suggestion, if at all possible, to keep some sort of digital playback hooked into your system. Convenience, background music, availability of music are...
