replacing tonearm question?
I would plan on buying a new armboard as well if you are going this route. The FT3's mounting distance and bolt pattern are both different from the 9 inch Jelcos, which use a Linn mount and have a 214 pivot to spindle (as opposed to the 221 for th...
Testing the Yamamoto HS-4 Carbon Fiber headshell.
Maybe a system synergy thing? On a 750D on my Gyrodec I experienced pretty much the exact opposite that you did-almost a complete 180.  Would never go back to the stock Jelco headshell. My comments here:http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/forum/viewtop...
Abbey Road 50th Anniversary
I have the Japanese Toshiba Pro Use on vinyl and that will be good enough for me. No OBI and the jacket is probably VG+ but the vinyl is essentially mint. I like the record but it is not a desert island piece for me. But still nice to listen to ev...
Blood On The Tracks MoFi UD1S
Probably a pressing issue of some kind Jollytinker (either a faulty early pressing or a later reissue resulting in poor sound quality) as I have a Canadian first pressing in fabulous condition that sounds very good. So much so that I'm not incline...
Mono Reissues and the Conical Stylus
"If you're expecting 850-1000 hrs from a well polished nude conical Denon tip then how many hrs do you expect from Shibata or MicroRidge?"My expectations, based on my experience, would be as follows:1) 850-1000 out of a high quality nude conical...
LP12- Power Supply- Need education
Yes, and it is exactly the approach that the Nottingham takes I believe.
LP12- Power Supply- Need education
One of the major things, if not the major thing, that power supplies like the Lingo, VPI SDS & ADS and other turntable power supplies designed for AC motors do is ramp the voltage down significantly after startup. The Linn and VPI power suppli...
Mono Reissues and the Conical Stylus
Goofyfoot: I would agree with Chakster that conicals are going to wear faster than line contact or microridge styli. I would not agree, however, that it is necessary to retip all conical styli at the 300 hour mark. There are conicals (cheap) and t...
Origin live Cartridge Enabler - a review
Purchasing an AT-ML 170 is not a problem at the moment Lew. Chakster just happens to have a very fine specimen for sale haha!Very lightly used.
advice for mono cartridge
I don't think it is quite that simple Chakster. As I see it, all things being equal (which they never are unfortunately) there are simply more compromises to be made with mono cartridges than with stereo as a result of the 3 different types of groo...
Michell Gyrodec, main bearing lube
Just two of their own proprietary oil. I believe essentially a thicker and thinner version of the same oil. The thinner (standard version I believe) is appropriate for the inverted bearing on the Gyro/Orbe. It appears they also sell the original L...
Michell Gyrodec, main bearing lube
Not significantly different in doing an oil change on the older bearing and the newer inverted bearing (I've owned my Gyrodec since 1985 so have done multiple changes on both types of bearings) but the old style bearing would not be usable immedia...
Michell Gyrodec, main bearing lube
It’s really not that difficult. Undo the knurled nut securing the platter to the top of the bearing housing and lift the platter straight up and off, using a thumb to press down on the spindle as you’re doing so. Then lift the top half of the bear...
Sussurro MkII and surface noise?
Peter's OCL is without question, and by far, the most difficult stylus profile to dial in with respect to overall setup that I've ever had to deal with. Extremely sensitive to VTA in particular with respect to how noisy it will be in the groove bu...
Tonearms with no anti-skate adjustment
Dover: My reference to it being "a big deal" with unipivots was really with respect to the importance of measuring VTF directly at record height with that type of arm. Very easy to be out/light .2 to .3 grams if measuring above record height with ...
