A stupid question(s) about power cords
I like to use shielded power cords, even when the device it is connected to is not grounded. The shielding should reduce the chances of local EMI/RFI sources like Ethernet / Wifi radios from polluting the noise after it’s been cleaned up by my pow...
Surge protector
Hi OP: I meant to say that I use a Trip Lite everywhere except my PC because I have an Uninterruptable Power Supply. Because Furman makes so many products it’s important to note whether they have SMP (Series Mode Protection) and LiFT (Linear Filt...
Surge protector
^^^^^^^^^ This, exactly this.  It isn't just the repair cost, it's the lifting and shipping.  An amp/ speaker that's blown sounds a lot worse than one plugged into a surge protector. I wrote about this here: http://pqltd.blogspot.com/2023/10/...
Subwoofer Connection
The usual tips I give everyone else applies. Using a sub for a narrow bandwidth is usually a horribly inefficient way to achieve incremental benefits. Plug any ports in your main speakers Add an EQ in line with the subwoofer and configure only...
Wifi ethernet jack recommendation
All the opinions are why I recommend using an analyzer first.  Really depends on your home's layout and where you live.  I don't have that many neighbors but for some reason all three of their routers like to sit on the first channel in each band.
Marantz AV7705 AV Receiver: HDMI out to external DAC
OP: There is no point in going from the AV processor to your T+A besides convenience of keeping your 2 channel amp. The only two ways I’ve ever seen of doing what you are asking for is via Theta Digital’s digital output board and via an Oppo mod...
Coda #8, Pass XA25, or Schiit Tyr to replace PS Audio M700
I'm a little worried your symptoms are that of an untreated room.  An amp with excellent high frequency extension may sound shrill if you have only reflective surfaces, or your speakers are toed in too much.  A number of excellent speakers need a ...
Wifi ethernet jack recommendation
Wifi can work well but apartment buildings and closely packed condos can pose challenges due to too many routers in the neighborhood.  Having at least a dual band router can help too. Get a free Wifi analyzer for your phone or tablet to ensure th...
Best subwoffer crossover with room correction
@kykat  - Oh man the prices on the Vandersteen crossovers are out of this world.  I thought they used to have less expensive in-line crossovers.  You can make your own single-ended crossover with high-end copper foil caps for 1/10th of those pric...
Passive subwoofer amps help!
If you are running these under horns you may want something more flexible, like a fully DSP capable crossover ahead of both of your amps. If these are being run purely as subs then that's not an issue.
Marantz AV7705 AV Receiver: HDMI out to external DAC
You are definitely doing this the hard way. Per page 41, use the bypass mode with any of the analog inputs. In the Marantz, tell it to send your LFE signal to the L and R outputs OR use both of the sub's inputs so it can receive the LFE from the ...
18 inch subwoofer vs multiple 12 inch subwoofers with bookshelf speakers
There are definitely times when smaller is less likely to wake the dragons, so I'm not saying smaller isn't often just right, but sometimes excess really is excess.
Need a 4 way electronic crossover
I believe this would work. Supports all standard crossover points and slopes + has built in EQ which is very handy for taming bass modes.
IFi Zen Stream connection problem — hardwired from Wi-Fi extender
There are free wifi analyzers for all phones and laptops. Use it to make sure your mesh channel is strong AND not congested with neighboring signals. Also, if you notice this starts after some time using, try a fan on the devices.  Sometimes the ...
Marantz vs. Oppo or Theta
@big_greg Thanks!! Honestly I thought the Oppo sounded really good for movies, I just don't want to get anything significantly worse. Best,   Erik
