Warm-up time.
When I had my Atma-Sphere rig, a 1 hour warm-up with no music playing was sufficient (but necessary).  Later on, with an all-Rowland system including a Model 5 power amp, that amp just sounded better and better the longer it was on.  When I was of...
Opinions on using a Proceed AVP for 2-channel stereo only?
When I had a 5.1 HT system, the SSP was an AVP-2.  The AVP-2 was considered to be a fair notch above the AVP in SQ.  I kept using this over newer models because of its tonally rich SQ.  However, just to satisfy my curiosity, I tried it as the prea...
What's your OTL tube amp experience and suggestion?
Some years back I had the then most recent Atma-Sphere MP-1 preamp along with the MA-2 Mk 2.3 monoblocks.  They were driving Dynaudio Confidence C2s with the source being a VSE-modded Sony 777es.  The AS gear was the most transparent, fast, textur...
Preamp w/ a budget of $2000
Another vote for the Rowland Capri Series 1 for under $2k, the Series 2 for about $2.5k.  Very detailed and dynamic, but never cold.  I used to have a Series 1.
No-one talks about Rowlands anymore
I am a much poorer audiophile than I used to be with a MUCH more modest system.  However, in my last decent rig, I had Rowland electronics, a Capri Series I preamp and a Model 5 power amp.  The system synergy was tremendous, the sound was tremendo...
Moving on from Parasound A21 (maybe?)
Hello professor,This is just my 2 cents.  I know you are looking for different amp recommendations, but I have had some experience with Signal Cable ICs, just not the same ones you are currently using.  TBH, they didn't stay with me long at all as...
How to ship CD's
To ZD542,I'm going to be placing some ads shortly for a bunch of my SACDs, some of which are OOP and are somewhat valuable. So, I want them to arrive safely to the purchaser.Because I'm old and have early Alzheimers, what is USPS Media Mail? I hav...
Cary 200.2/500mb vs. BAT 500 w/BAT-PAK
I should also add that this would replace a Rowland Model 5. I had posted a thread a few days ago asking about a Rowland Model 8 or possibly a pr. of 6's. As they don't come up for sale very often, I'm looking into the above as "substitutes" for n...
Rowland Model 5, upgrade to Model 8/8ti
Thanks everyone. Keep the comments coming. I soak this stuff up like a sponge.
Rowland Model 5, upgrade to Model 8/8ti
I know this is off topic, but I saw a Bat VK-500 w/Bat-Pak for sale here. I've never heard any BAT SS gear, have read some reviews, seems like it may be similar to older Rowland gear but with better bass definition. Any thoughts?
Rowland Model 5, upgrade to Model 8/8ti
Thanks, FF. I didn't know a used Model 8 commanded that high a price. That's a bit out of reach for me.I was reading up on the Model 10 a bit. Some folks stated they thought it was a bit lean sounding compared to the 2/6/8/9 series. On person even...
Supertramp
I saw them live twice way back when, once indoors and once outdoors. The indoor concert was one of the best I ever attended, esp. the train ride during Rudy. Of course, a little "medicinal" help didn't hurt either.
Do you leave the Jeff Rowland Amp on all the time
I have an old Model 5. If I'm going to be off from work for a couple of days, I leave the amp on 24/7. It sounds OK after being on for 1-2 hours but sounds way better after being powered up for 1-2 days. Besides, in winter here in the Great White ...
There are new audiophiles born everyday
Thanks for sharing, Gammajo. Ludwig must have been smiling while watching this little guy doing his schtick. I'm just glad he decided not to eat one of his cooters though.
Slam possible with Tubes instead of SS ??
I'm of a like mind with Rleff. I recently purchased my first piece of Jeff Rowland gear, a Model 5 power amp. It is a warmer sounding SS amp, somewhat lush in the midrange that has tremendous "slam". In other words, it has a great power supply, ra...
