DAC for entry level system
Just a quick word about tubes....Some of the newer re-makes and some of the easy to find brands in general are getting to be very good and not expensive at all. The new remake Mullards are wonderful tubes and not that far off from the original. JJ...
DAC for entry level system
If you would like to have a very musical dac that is inexpensive and fun to use, I would recomend the Jolida tube dac. It is about 500.00 new and comes with 2 12ax7 tubes. It is well constructed and uses premium parts ( such as Clarity caps). Tube...
Feedback on the current Reference 3a changes ?
Jafant,I am a big fan of Focal. I just got rid of a pair of 706v (al/mag tweeter) and hated to see them go. Downright excellent pacing and very musical. Very, very important to me is that they played well at low volumes. I am in hopes that the DeC...

If it works that well, I think that I will try coupling my butt to the recliner with the stuff......On a more serious side..... I have now a cute little Jolita 202 all decked out with the new Genelex Gold Lion kt77's (outputs) and the new Mullard ...
Feedback on the current Reference 3a changes ?
Rebbi:Do I drive the "blue tacks" in from the side edges of the speakers or take the woofers out and hammer them though the bottoms into the top of the stands ? This stuff is soooo confusing !Cheers... !Tubeears

OK, that's it. I just pulled the trigger on gorgeous pair of Ref. 3a DeCapo,s in Gloss Red Maple. They are the "I" version built in 2010 and they even have the super nice Skylan (4 post) stands cut especially for the DeCapo's. I guess that I want ...
The best speaker you ever heard?
JP1208:I believe that you hit the speaker on the head. 'Ole Doc77 seems to hawk everything made of Vapor in his other posts. I've never heard them, quite probably never will. They may be a good or even a great speaker but someone who sneaks the na...

Rebbi,You have a very nice set up. Since I am seriously considering a pair of DeCapo's, I am very curious as to your findings on the new tweeter. My experience with BE tweets have not been good, but I am open to change. I am (once again) going bac...
Feedback on the current Reference 3a changes ?
Hi Bojack,Yes, I will agree.... I am a bit on the "bonkers" side. But not near as bad as the folks at Ref.3a that made the decision to turn the (once good looking) speaker line into the color of old battleships. They are good, if not great, speake...
Reference 3A speakers
If your not fussy about identical Ref 3a drivers, you may be able to pick up suitable replacements from company's such as Parts Express or Crutchfield. If the cabinets are finished in a good veneer or lacquer, I would certainly look into purchasin...
What tracking force for Shure V15lll?
I agree. After all the garbage of the 70's that I went through, I physiatrist would help as well. Just the thought of the first V15, the maiden runs of SS amp's and of course all the JBL's and Altec's that went through the house, it's a wonder tha...
What tracking force for Shure V15lll?
The Sure V15 series has a earned rep for harsh, brittle and almost unlistenable bright sound. They were a standing joke among most 'philes decades ago. The only cure (and a partial one at that) was "MORE" weight. Most of us (that would end up with...
What do you think about Edge amps ?
I chose an Edge M6m to drive my Gallo 3.1's. Best decision that I could have ever made for an amp. I have owned many, many amps, but this (the M6m) is one of the very best. It has the remarkable color and musical texture of my old Jeff Rowland 112...
The best speaker you ever heard?
The word "best" covers a lot of ground. It has always been reserved for the Quad ESL-57, but... it is slowly becoming the Gallo Ref. 3.1 (which I have owned for a very short while). I will know for sure when the Edge M6m amp (another Audiogon purc...
What time do you wear?
L.L. Bean is my watch (it is made by Hamilton). I bought it in the 70's. I wore it all over Alaska for many years. I didn't wear it for actual work (Journeyman Lineman/Electrical), but it bounced around the line truck for years. I wore it hunting,...
