Reed 2G vs 3P…..Opinion please!
I love checking out high-end phono stages. I never heard of the Konus Audio Vinyl 3000MC phono so I went to their website to check it out. They claim a "cost no object...state of the art design" yet don’t mention much about the design element othe...
Anyone listen to the new SME Model 15 or 20 MK2?
Haven’t heard one yet. It’s a whole new two-box power supply with a large toroidal transformer and a new, bigger AC motor. Impressive! Stereo.net in Germany did a comparison of the model 12a vs MkII and said the MK2 was a massive improvement. An E...
Can you pick out what is what?
As long as a phono stage provides low noise and an accurate RIAA response, I’m not certain you realy need an uber expensive one. Sure you can spice things up with fancy circuitry or tubes etc, but ultimately, they don’t necessarily sound better, ...
Vinyl - One Word - WOW!!
It's a classic debate, nature vs nurture, vinyl vs cd? I own a decent cd player (Naim 5XS) and digital is essential for accessing contemporary recordings. All my favorite music was originally released on vinyl. I mostly listen to jazz music recor...
Great phono stage, with character, for a digital pre
Rega Aria MKIII $1695 US will handle MC or MM. Rega knows how to design a good phono stage and represents an excellent value: https://www.rega.co.uk/products/aria-mk3
Michael Fremer leaves Analog Planet
Fremer described himself best when he quoted a reader who said he was, "a haberdasher to emperors." MF has definitely broadened the analog horizons by writing about many different turntables, cartridges and phono stages over the years. I appreciat...
What does a tonearm contribute to the sound of a turntable?
I agree with Simio and FsonicSmith above - I had a VPI Traveller turntable for a while and it was the 2nd Worse TT I've owned out of dozens. The worst was Nottingham Horizon which had a motor that caused vibrations on the tonearm so bad you could ...
What does a tonearm contribute to the sound of a turntable?
Turntable supports the record, the tonearm serves the cartridge. Some cartridge makers even suggest using a particular type of tonearm - sometimes due to mass or pivot type.High end MC cartridges will need an excellent arm to deliver all of what th...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
"Where does this leave the US consumer in regards to the acquisition of a top flite cartridge...IMO the answer is between a hard place and a rock..."Poor Davey has just three thousand or maybe even FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS to spend on a phono cart...
Fun Analog Upgrade Challenge
Thanks for everyon’s response & interest. The scenario I described above is part hypothetical as my intent was to stimulate discussion on what area might make the greatest improvement in a vinyl playback system. I do have a Rega RP10 with a Ly...
Weak point in this analog system ?
You might find the Linto to be a little lean and analytical with the Denon 103? If you're looking for a different sound, why not experiment with a tube phono stage? Perhaps an EAR or a used ARC.
Good carts with SME V
Are you not happy with your Atlas? I did not like the Helikon on my SME V - not enough body and warmth for my taste. If you're looking for a fleshier, sexier (?) sound I think a Koetsu would be fabulous or a Kiseki or Sumiko Palo Santos.
Fun Analog Upgrade Challenge
I understand that putting ALL the money on one component does not necessarily make the most sense. What I'm getting at is this:which aspect of an already high quality, balanced analog set-up would would yield the biggest sonic gain if one were to ...
Advice Please On Turntable Upgrade?
Sorry I didn't see you second post on budget - Rega Planar 3 and a Lyra Delos cart or perhaps a Dynavector 20X
