bookshelf speakers
How deep are the shelves? I'd say either the Silverline Minuets for something on the shallow side and Silverline Minuet Supreme Plus is you have the space. The little Minuets sound very good on shelves and play well with a broad range of equipment.
Suggestions for a good stereo preamp and amp
Maybe I'm missing something, but I really don't understand why many will try to steer you toward an integrated unless you're talking about spending thousands of dollars.Since you're running a REL you don't need a sub out. ZD is also right about am...
Goodbye CD's
It's funny, because I remember that sale. What's also funny is that this thread was started about five years ago and CDs still seem to be pretty common. Personally, I can't remember the last time I listened to a CD.
Has anyone tried making their own interconnects?
Mental, yeah, that's something I'm going to have to look into. There was a time when I thought that soldering made the best connection, but I have read that crimping makes for the best connection. Well, crimping or some other method of mechanical ...
Four channel intergrated amp?
Brad, I understand your situation with regard to who to buy it from.I would whole heartedly recommend listening to the unit (and an in home audition if possible) before buying, because $5K is a lot of money.I've never dealt with those guys in N.Y....
Has anyone tried making their own interconnects?
Well, what makes sense to me (not that it means anything) is using a good quality wire with a PTFE sheath of sorts allowing lots of air around the wire. It also sounds pretty easy to do, especially for the lengths normally associated with intercon...

Mezmo, that venhaus link is actually what got me thinking about this. I just wanted to ask some of you here what you thought about it, just in case.
Has anyone tried making their own interconnects?
Thanks guys. If nothing else, you have certainly fueled the fire.I think I'm gonna start with something along the lines of a silver plated solid core copper wire using PTFE sheathing and see what I get.
emotiva mono block amps any good?
Yeah, I ran across a post in a thread that said that the XPR actually does less than 1 watt in class A before it switches to class H, whatever that is.At this point, however, I'm not willing to discount any advancement in technology, in light of w...
How does the Peachtree amp and Dac compare...?
I'd imagine that you have the Peachtree Nova 125 and NAD C375BEE in mind.I think that choosing between the two would be more a matter of personal preference. The Peachtree unit sounds good, although I liked it better without the tube buffer engaged...
Four channel intergrated amp?
Brad, is an integrated what you need due to space or is it just what you're used to?First of all, Paradigm Monitor speakers aren't bad at all. My first pair of speakers were Monitors. What I remember the most about them, though, is that they are t...
emotiva mono block amps any good?
Lowrider,There is surprisingly little info about the XPR, or I just didn't find it. I did a little looking during some downtime at work and didn't find much in the form of reviews. What I have run across is a pic of the inside of an XPR-1...http://...
emotiva mono block amps any good?
It looks like the XPR line may be a totally different animal. I'd like to know more myself. The only things that strike me as POSSIBLE areas of concern are that the power doesn't double when going from 8 ohms to 4 ohms, which is something that most...
Soooo many choices.
The Bifrost is tied with the W4S uDAC as my next thing to try, after I get a new amp. I've heard the Bifrost and in comparison to my XDA-1, I think the Bifrost sounded better. Sound stage was a bit deeper and the mids had more body.I stuck with th...
emotiva mono block amps any good?
You know, Mitch. As I said above, I was just trying make sure that the OP realized that there were alternatives on the used market.Besides, other than the amps mentioned above, there was also a Krell and a Belles, each of which was rated at 250wpc...
