Step down transformers detrimental to SQ?
An equally important concern is if it is 50Hz or 60Hz current.  Running a 50 Hz unit on our 60Hz can cause overheating. (If it’s 50/60Hz rated, you are okay as far as current goes)
Klipsch!. The worst speaker company, EVER?
Millercarbon, back in 1970, it was difficult finding very low powered amplifiers.  That’s when I was first buying stereo, and 30wpc rms amps were moderate powered, and it was not unusual finding them them 80-90 wpc rms.   Granted, they weren’t the...
How much difference will a phono stage upgrade make?
In the fairly near future, PS Audio will introduce the Stellar Phono stage, targeted for the low $2000s.  It sounds like it might be a real winner, and all PS Audio is easy to audition in home for a month.  Just a thought.
An encounter and lesson in speaker prices ...
How do we know the lower priced speakers were out of phase?  Unless you know whether each piece of equipment in each system isingerting or non-inverting, you don’t.  It’s possible that one system was inverted at the speaker outputs compared to the...
Anyone use a cartridge demagnetizer?
what would cause a cartridge to require demagnitizing?  As far as I figure, nothing.  Any voltage going through it are AC voltages.  And the levels are so low, they probably couldn’t in any way affect magnets, or ferrous materials, and if they wer...
Bookshelf speakers for near-field (desktop) use
I have the Quad S2, and at $1000/pr, imho, they are a steal. I use them as computer speakers, and sit about 2-3 feet away from them. They can be bi-wired/bi-amped, too.
KEF LS50 or Wharfedale Reva 2 -- which would you buy?
The Quad S2 is a great speaker for $1000.   You might want to consider it too.
CD Got Absolutely Crushed By Vinyl
I have a $8000 turntable setup, and a $5000 streamer/DAC.  On most of what I listen to, the vinyl sounds better.  But sometimes CD is better.  But the differences in the source quality, imho, far outweighs the differences in playback capabilities....
CD Got Absolutely Crushed By Vinyl
Since the master for vinyl is almost always different than the master for CD (if not always different), it is virtually impossible to make a meaning comparison between the different formats.  You can’t determine if the differences are because of t...
MQA is Legit!
Mofimadness, most MQAs are from different masters than the equivalent CDs.  When I have heard both from what I know to be the same master, CD always sounds substantially better.  In addition to having to be from the same master, the levels have to...
MQA is Legit!
shadorne, I totally agree.  MQA, to my ears, is inferior even to Redbook CD in every aspect.
MQA is Legit!
I hear way too much distortion in MQA, and also inferior attack and delay.  To me, everything nautural sounds too synthetic.
Need input regarding integrated amp
I had I had a Peachtree Nova, and it was poorly made.  Jacks fell apart, and the digital section totally failed.
Sell your $$$ cables and conditioners... affordable LITHIUM is here!
kk_aa, according to Paul McGowan, there are several other brands of regeneration power units other than PS Audio.
