About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone
Seasons greetings Paul and thank you for sharing this devastating news with us. I will E-mail Pat and pray for him and I hope everyone on the 'gon will do the same. Pat has been an outstanding and frequent contributor here and I can't wait for his...
Vienna Acoustics Mahler, carpet piercing cones?
Audiogon member esoler makes the best cones. They are made out of stainless steel and he will make them to your specs. They are priced less than the name brands and sound better. IMHO I hope this helps. Happy Listening! John
CD Mats
Greetings, almost everyone here is on the right track. The Herbies mat is a clear winner. I have tried the Monster, the Audio Prism CD Blacklight mat, and the Marigo Orpheus mat. The Herbies mat gives more detail, tightens up the bottom end and ad...
Cyro'd Outlets - Need strong hold on Elrods
Try giving your Elrods some support with cotton string. It will aid in suspending them off the floor and away from other cables. I hope this helps. Happy Listening!
DIY help on Speakers Stands
Greetings Jeff, I agree with the two prior posts about using Maple if you must use wood. My question is: why not just get 2"-3" cones and be done with it? The cones alone will sound much better than using the cone/block/vibrapod combination. A-gon...
Sub crossover setting....
Invest in a Rat shack analog sound level meter and one of Rives test cd's. They have the adjustments for the meter in their instructions. That is the best way to set the X-over point. Happy Listening! John
I have seen the light.
Congratulations! Always like to hear about a success story. Happy Listening! John
Power cords
Greetings, obviously, the person you spoke to either has no experience with good power cable, or, he does not have a system with sufficient resolution to appreciate what a fine power cable can do. See if you can demo one or borrow one from a frien...

Chris, using the high level inputs on your sub will change the load your amp "sees." It will lower the impedance and may cause your amp to run hotter and you will have less headroom than using choice #2. Listen to Warrenh and Aroc go with #2! Happ...
Best way to integrate a sub into 2 channel system?
Greetings, Warrenh (as usual) and Aroc are right on regarding choice #2. You will get better integration and more headroom from your main amp using the subs X-over. I hope this helps. Happy Listening! John

Is a cable cooker worth it?
Cooking your cables WILL make an audible difference. It can be amazing. I recook mine every six months and here an improvement every time. You should look into getting a unit, or, if it is not in your budget right now, or if you want to hear the d...
How to not stub your toe -in
Motdathird, Cardas Audio has some guidelines on speaker placement and toe in. www.cardas.com Another good source would probably be Rives audio. They are a member here on Audiogon. Happy Listening! John
Preamp Isolation Cones Without Going NUTS
4yanx, in my system I prefer the Soler points and pucks to all others I have tried. That includes BDR's with pucks, Mapleshade Triplepoints, Tone cones and others. And it is superior to all sorbothane or rubber based products. IMHO YMMV. Happy Lis...
Silver DIY Interconnects
Greetings, .6mm equates to about 22.5 awg. With 23 awg being .584mm and 22 awg being .635 mm. Probably some Cardas wire. George uses a lot of in between gauges. That wire is a bit large for my taste. It my have a bit too warm sound and lack dynami...
