glam rock fans?
Check out any and all Slade collections, but I personally recommend "Slayed" as their best album. There are also some great CD comps that collect the more obscure stuff. Two to check out are called "Velvet Tinmine" and "GlitterBest"-Jake
Cats and audiophiles
Three cats here, but ALL of them are on double secret probation right now due to some holes being put into a pair of grill covers for the Sonus Faber Electa Amator II's that I used to own.Someday they might be allowed back into the listening room,...
What is a "SHOTGUN" speaker cable??
So let me see if I have this right. If I was just hooking up one channel, this is what I would be faced with:Shotgun = A strand of wire that terminates into 4 spades/bananas on the amp side and then 4 spades/bananas on the speaker side?Traditional...
Need to re-discover analog - please help
Wow, now I kinda am sorry I asked. What a royal pain in the ass! And yeah, I hear you with wanting to tear your hair out after putting the cash down, waiting, and then doing the setup as best you can; only to find that the stumbling blocks are of ...
Wilson Sophia
Funny, my gf also declared that the WP7's look like "trash cans", but that the Sophias look "less trash-canny". These women must have all been watching the same TV design show or something.Anyways, I have never heard the Sophias, but wholeheartedl...

Ok, I have just finished reading this thread from top to bottom and it has been a helluva story, but what gives? We need a follow-up!!!As a digital guy who is eager to get rolling into the vinyl club, this story was made for somebody like me. A bu...
San Francisco Bay Area Audio Society
So whats going on with the audiophile groups (BAAA and BAAS) here in the Bay Area these days?I've made a few deals with some local Audiogoners and kept in touch with them. It would be cool to hear some of my gear on different systems, and dont min...
Anybody ever hear Alon Exoticas?
I recently picked up a set of these speakers via Audiogon and I must say that they are a dramatic improvement over my Sonus Faber Electa Amator II's.From what I understand, Carl M. designed these (and had them in production) before the Grand Refer...
Denon 3910 vs Marantz Dv 9500...
I did a demo A-B comparison of the Marantz 9500 ($2000) vs the 2-channel Marantz SA-11 ($3500) with Redbook and SACD's and the differences were very very minute. This was on an ultra revealing high end system made up of Burmeister amplification an...
No Audiophiles in Hollywood
A couple of additions to this thread:1. In Sixteen Candles, when panning over Jake's house after the big party has occured, you can see a Nakimichi Dragon malfunctioning.2. In the first Punisher movie (with Dolph Lungren) you can see, once again, ...
Sonus Faber Sound?
I owned the Electa Amator II's for over three years and just sold them. I miss them already. If you are looking for the last bit of detail, take a pass on Sonus Faber (with the exception of the Homage line). Value for money though, this is an extre...
Fake plants behind speakers a good idea?
Funny that this thread topic just came up.A week ago I bought a pair of speakers and set them in the same place as the old pair of speakers that they replaced. Sure, I adjusted them a few inches. A little toe-in here, an inch or two forward there,...
Best compression format for PC Jukebox
Thanks Edesilva, I appreciate the advice.Last night I did some critical listening with my latest PC audio toy, a Wavelength Brick. Doing some A-B comparisons with a Lucinda Williams redbook CD on the latest Marantz universal player (DV7600) as my ...
Best compression format for PC Jukebox
So am I correct in understanding that ripping a CD on iTunes in Apple Lossless compresses the file size but in no way effects the sound for playback? Does ripping it into a WAV file do the same thing?Leaving something like EAC out of the equation ...
