Tri-planar vs Graham
Duane's wrong on two of his three points. I've owned three Graham's and they're not at all difficult to set up; if you've got half a brain. Tri-Planar's are also easy to set up and while sonically different than Graham, they're anything but "sparse."
Camparing Creek Destinty to Exposure 2010S Wow
Dbarger, Just wondering if yours was the 2010 "S" version? I'm looking at either Creek or Exposure integrated for second system and am finding it difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to opinions. My main gear is Atma-Sphere...
Tube amps that kick ass?
Though I went from VTL 250's to Atma-Sphere MA-1 MkIII's, it wasn't because I thought the VTL's were rolled off or that they had any other serious flaws for that matter. I just decided it was time for a change and wanted to try something different...
Tube amps that kick ass?
Fplanner2000, my buddy just replaced his VTL 450's with a pair of the VAC Phi 300.1 monos and as you say, they're wonderful. Right out of the box they stomped the 450's in every sonic area I can think of and they continue to improve with breakin. ...
Tube amps that kick ass?
I owned VTL 250 mono's for several years and a good bud has owned the 450's even longer. The 250's are wired in triode and sound even better than the 450's when they're switched to triode and either will definitely get the job done; especially sin...
Turntable/Tonearm Advice
I've owned three Sota's over the years and if you're gonna do it, get a Star. The vacuum hold down is definitely worth the extra few bucks.I've also owned the SME V and SME IV.Vi, one each mounted on different Sota Stars and one on a Nottingham Me...
Bass, more or less?
I'm with Stringreen, "without bass there is no foundation." Yah, the midrange and highs need to be "right", that goes without saying but without good bass, you limit your music to small ensembles. No way a speaker that only goes down to 40 or 50 H...
CAT Legend vs WAVAC PR-T1 ?
I've owned every CAT from the Sig. Mk1 through Ultimate 2 and never had ANY problems with tubes; that includes the wonderful sounding Sig. Mk 2 that used the 12AU7s. After six CATs over maybe 15 years I decided it was time for a change and went wi...
Cartridge Suggestions
You might want to go to Audioasylum and check out a mini review/comparison of the Ortofon 2M Black a friend of mine did.Go to "Inmate Systems" then type in "joeljoel1947" in the "Find Inmate" box. Click joeljoel1947 and it'll take you to his page....
A new CDP after my Rega Apollo or a new DAC?
I picked up a Raysonic 128 recently and couldn't be more pleased. My last digital rig was an APL Hi-Fi full blown Denon 3910 w/AKM DACs. Excellent sound but I dumped it two years ago and have been listening to vinyl exclusively ever since(Galibier...
Speaker cable for 25 foot run
I'd go with the Signal Cable "Silver Resolution." Much better than their cheaper stuff but still very reasonable. My brother uses it tri-wired between Mac 501s and Mac XRT28's with great results. I still use a pair that have gone through a couple ...
need warm and LAID BACK hi-rez/focused power cord
Lcherepkai, No, I really don't take issue with cables as tone controls to "sculpt" the sound. I personally find them quite necessary to bring out the best in a system and look at them as a means to do a little fine tuning. That is, after putting t...
need warm and LAID BACK hi-rez/focused power cord
Ever consider the aggressive sound might be coming from your components or more likely those metal dome tweeters and mids in your Legacy "clones"? Power cords and cables in general will only do so much and let's face it, they're often used as band...
Cardas ICs are too warm for Tube amp
I just switched(after auditioning) to GR between CD and preamp and couldn't be happier. Between amp and preamp I'm using balanced Wireworld Eclipse 5 and having tried many other cables, this combination seems to bring out the best in my Atma-Spher...
Which preamp for Symphonic Line Kraft amps?
In years past I owned an RG-1, an RG-7 and the RG-4 monos. I tried a few different preamps with each of them but in the end CAT preamps always produced the best sound. The RG-1 was mated to a Sig. 1 and the RG-4s were mated to an Ultimate. Truly w...
