Hhhmmm..my ZYX R-1000 Airy 3 SL (4 Ohm) was more sensitive to higherloads. It had a tendency to harshness when loaded with more than320 Ohm.My ZYX 4D XH (8 Ohm) was more flexible and played even with47 kOhm phantastic.

Hi artemus, you should definitively try the 47k as well. That rocks! But to be honest my 4D was playing most of the time with 320 Ohm.
Worthy alternatives to the Aria for my RP8/Apheta 2?
If you think about Ayre I would recommend the Ayre P-5xe... anreally excellent phono stage.Just heard it two days ago in comparison with other (more expensive)phono stages.
Lyra Etna Versus Kleos
I had now a couple of chances to hear a direct shoot out(performed by the German Lyra importer) of the Kleos, Etna and Atlas.Last time it were the 3 SL versions. All cartridges were mounted in the same tonearms and workedwith the same phono stage.W...
Cartridge Advice Please
The tonearm of the Marantz is not that heavy. So I would recommend the Hana SL as a very good match forthis Clearaudio-OEM turntable.

This weekend Avid was again playing three different turntables. The sound system was of course constantly the same. They used the three models Diva, Sequel and Acutus. All wereequipped with SME IV tonearms and Nagaoka MP-150 cartridges. After that ev...

Why do turntables sound different?
@nkonorIf I remember right, he showed the Ingenium, the Volvere and theAcutus. Each step brought more "quietness" and "three-dimensionality".By the way... just next weekend the AAA-Forum-show will againtake place in Krefeld / Germany. So if you wan...
Why do turntables sound different?
I do not know why, but I have heard that it is like this.Last year I spent a while in a room at the AAA-Forum in Germanywhere Conrad Mas from Avid Audio made an interesting test. There were three of his turntables equipped with the same tonearm-car...

Koetsu cartridges - what arms work?
Hi lewm,I have the 9"-version in my system. Due to the underhang the "mounting distance" is with 273mm quite long and it looks notreally short.Fascinating is that some friends and me have played aroundwith a huge variety of different cartridges (w...
Koetsu cartridges - what arms work?
So far the best tonearm (especially, but not only for Koetsu)is the ViV Rigid Float. In my system this beast has beaten all conventional tonearmsso far including classic 12", DaVinci, Graham, Reed and others.

Congrats as well from my side! The ZYX 4D is an outstanding cartridge. If you use the 9,5" tonearm you should maybe make a test withsome additional weight at the headshell. The ZYX cartridgedeswork best with a total weight (eff. maas tonearm + cart...
Cartridge Suggestion Requested
@avanti1960 The recommendation for the Ortofon Cadenza Red is a good one.Alternatively you could look for a Candenza Black if the phonostage has a higher gain.Blue and Bronce might not be exactly what you want. The Blue isextremly dynamic and the ...

Hi "noromance",the Jelco is a very good tonearm as it is.The above mentioned Ortofon is a Jelco OEM-product and willnot better the one you have significantly. But you should consider two already mentioned tweaks plus anextra one:1. The Ammonite col...
