Duevel's "Venus "Speaker or Shaninian's "Obelisk". Which offers the best sound quality?
I must've been the last person to deal with Pascal as he was traveling quite extensively and had mentioned he was getting ready to hang em' up.  I was a bit reluctant to purchase the Duevels through a Canadian distributor that I knew nothing about...
Duevel's "Venus "Speaker or Shaninian's "Obelisk". Which offers the best sound quality?
I run the entry level Duevel Planets in my Great room system and for what they are I can't complain, they look like a piece of art and fill a pretty good sized room with pleasing full range sound.  Duevels don't have much of a footprint here in th...
What are some of the downsides of owning a Magneplanar .7 or 1.7i ?
Most everything stated above is accurate so I won't repeat.  To me the most important aspect of owning Maggie's comes down to musical taste.  If you want to blast hard rock and such I'd look elsewhere, however, if your tastes run more towards Jazz...
MMGs
My choice would be 3): 1.7's   As good as the little MMG's are they only have so much to give.  Given your musical tastes the 1.7's would be sublime and you wouldn't need a sub to muddy things up.
Why are so many companies like harbeth making old speakers designs and charging thousends?
Companies like Harbeth and Magnepan which have been around for several decades are like the automotive equivalent of Porsche.  They developed a product that worked when originally introduced and were well received, then they continued to refine an...
Music Lovers Speaker vs. Audiophile Speaker
Sorry to get off topic but I think this relates...Audiophiles (of which I used to be) primarily listen to their equipment, a music lover simply enjoys the music and doesn't fret over the sound too much.  This is NOT to be critical of the audiophil...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
On my Walsh 3's I got rid of the casters, I simply unscrewed them and replaced them with solid rubber footers. I made sure that the final height was the same as the casters for proper vent clearance. I won't say the difference was dramatic but the...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Just to add my 2 cents I would say that the Ohm's make good recordings sound really good but their ability to make lesser recordings sound enjoyable is a trick too few speakers can pull off.  What good are ultra high resolution speakers if they re...
Reference 3A or Mark & Daniel or...
Been busy and hadn't looked at this thread in awhile... Anyway, while I still haven't settled on anything yet, I've added the Duevel Planets to my short list.  They seem like they'd have a fairly close presentation to my Ohm's but with a much smal...
Searching for the ideal vintage bookshelf speakers.
Unclechoppy,  I'm with you on all things vintage and you either get it or you don't. You might consider adding ADS to your list, I recently acquired a pristine set of ADS 570/2's and I must say they really shine, I've got them paired with a museum...
Are Ohm-Walsh micros and 1000 series disrespected because of omni-directional design??
To add to what Mapman already said I would also point out they don't advertise, hence reviewers typically won't give them much attention. The current Ohm line up are made up of two drivers, an upside down near full range driver crossed over very h...
What vintage speaker might you use today
About 3 years ago I was happily enjoying my Large walnut Advents in my main family room system when I happened upon a pristine pair of NHT 2.5's in a beautiful mahogany finish. When I showed my wife a photo of them she loved the narrow profile and...

Thanks smctigue I've read that a lot regarding the De Capo's.  I might add that I'm also considering the Sonus Faber Concerto's.

Mountainsong, how'd you like the Dulcets?
What vintage speaker might you use today
I run late 70's Yamaha NS690's in my man-loft system with a museum grade Yamaha CR1020. In my family room I have Ohm Walsh 3's circa mid 80's and frankly couldn't be happier. They are both fullrange speakers that sound good with music or movies, h...
