Thoughts on moving from a 1200G to Sota Saphire or above
@tzh21y I have had the 1200G, Sp10 Mk2 & Sp10 Mk3 (Dobbins), in my system, back to back. They are not different sounding. They are extremely similar with one better than the other primarily in terms of dynamics. In fact I would say the 1200G d...

@bfoura, I can't say if $3500 is a fair price or not without looking at the actual stuff. An SP10-Mk2 with its original black volcanic glass plinth in good condition commands $3k+ in general. But it should be cosmetically and functionally very goo...
Thoughts on moving from a 1200G to Sota Saphire or above
@atmasphere, I was using the mat that comes with Sp10 mk2. Sounded better than any other mat I tried on 1200G. But my overall impression of dynamics did not change.
Threshold T-200. Help me choose a preamplifier
I know this amp. It is a warm sounding. You need a good neutral preamp. I won't get into tube preamps for this unit. Leema is very nice.

Ortofon tonearm cable. Reasonable and nice

I forgot to mention, the 1200G dug out more micro details than my Garrard

@bfoura, I have used the 1200G with Timestep mod and tried couple of tonearms on them too. I used it along side a Loricraft Garrard 301, Jean Nantais Reference Lenco Mk2 (still use it) & SP10 Mk2. Everything in the same room, same system. I pa...
Which amp would you choose and why - Pass Labs XA-25 or First Watt F8?
Forget about power for a moment. XA25 is a normal pass amp. If you like pass sound (smoothened out, clean, safe & a bit boring), get XA. If you are looking for something raw and true to source, get Firstwatt. It should satisfy your speaker's h...
Tang Band 2145 in action
@audiogon moderator, please DON'T close this thread ever. It is one of the funniest one in a long time. You will have a lot of users visiting for just this
Perfect match for ATC speakers
Having used/heard almost all the ATC speakers with various amps, it is one of the most authentic sounding speakers in the world. Hence it is worth going the extra mile to give it what it needs. SCM 11 is one of their easiest to drive speakers. You...
Air Tight ATM-300R or Shindo Cortese 300B
Air tight 300r felt too laid-back for my taste. Lacking excitement and fire within. Audio Note UK sounded too much of their own house sound. A bit warm and slow. Wavac, Border Patrol & Shindo are very good
Preamp for ATCSCM40A
Having used many of the Naim components and also an ATC user for few years. Couple of things I learnt1. Powerlines are poor stuff. Replace it with Naim standard power cord (the free one) and watch the magic come back.2. Power conditioners like QBA...
Tone of Shindo
Shindo is anything but tone "correct"
LYRA DELOS CARTRIDGE TOO BRIGHT, THIN AND SHRILL SOUNDING
IME, there is no component (nothing) that sounds "bad", "horrible", "wrong" out of the box, and turns into a good, great, fantastic after x hours. The real character is audible within the first hour. After that it is only about smoothening out and...
LYRA DELOS CARTRIDGE TOO BRIGHT, THIN AND SHRILL SOUNDING
I too have found the Helikon to be a wonderful cartridge. Always heard it on a Lp12 with Aro tonearm. But never heard the same balance in a Delos.
