DBX Expander
If you dial it in properly, I doubt you will want to sell it.Looking at your system, you may not be into compression*** anymore - but the Impact Restoration on any analog recordings, when not overdone, is addictive. I have my 3BX-DS in the closet,...
DBX Expander
FYI, a 5bx just sold on Ebay tonight for $1100 which was actually cheap considering it's condition. I would have bid on it, just to have a 2nd unit - but I figure my wife would've ridiculed me perpetually - so I restrained myself. Anyway, there wa...
help guide a vinyl newbie
I'm using a Denon DP-59L now, because it has the auto shut-off which I find very useful. Compared to my VPI HW-19 with SME 309 arm, though, the sound quality is admittedly somewhat lackluster. I suspect, as Johnss mentions, that the primary culpri...
DBX Expander
First - $700 is ridiculously high for a 3bx. The best 3bx, which is the DS series, can be bought for $250 (or less) on Ebay very easily and I've never ever heard of one needing to be "refurbed". So now I'm a little suspicious of your tech guy's et...
Velodyne ULD 15 mk II Help with servo amp
Isn't that how they usually sound??? Just kidding :) Hmmm... I would call Velodyne Service about that and describe the symptoms. They probably can give you some diagnosis over the phone. Whether or not they still do this I don't know - but a few y...
Velodyne ULD 15 mk II Help with servo amp
If I recall correctly, Velodyne is not servicing these models any longer - though obviously, check that with them - they are a very friendly company. The most common issue with those amps is a blown output transistor. If the amp fuse keeps blowing...
DBX Expander
Well, I totally disagree with the 2 comments above. I have demo-ed properly adjusted DBX DS Series expanders for at least 15 "vinyl people" - and only ONE did not hear a dramatic improvement in A/B auditioning. Yes, they will "pump" if you overdo ...
Bose lifestyle 48
Bose is OK for home theatre although it IS wildly overpriced for the quality. For 2 channel music it would be a huge mistake. You would have to do some research, but a good used integrated amp and a pair of full range speakers purchased on Audiogo...
Is your image centred?
This definitely occurs - hard to say why. I have some records that pull badly to one side and many that pull just slightly. Yet I can easily check with test LP's and CD's that there is no issue with my system. My best guess would be poor mastering...
Does colored vinyl sound as bad as picture discs?
One can make a case that black vinyl is likely to be the WORST sounding color because of the carbon. According to the blurb on the back of my Peter Appleyard direct to disc album, "Salisbury Labs decided to use white virgin quadradisc vinyl after ...
Anyone using BillyBags for a TT stand?
I have one - not in use now except to pile laundry on, but it is exceptionally well made, looks great, and solid as a rock. Should be fine as a TT stand.
David Bromberg -- Any fans?
I saw him live a number of times in the 70's, and still pull out an album every so often. The live shows, as others have said above, were amazing. The horn section (and the way Bromberg integrated it) was exceptional, all the musicians were great ...
Battery Powered Turntables?
Just to be devil's advocate here - and maybe save you some time, money and grief - No part of ANY turntable's signal path is on the grid. The current is generated purely by the movement of the magnets and coils versus one another. So all you would...
Pioneer RT-707 reel to reel decks
Oops - got cut off - to continue,Judging from the comments so far it sounds like the Teac may sound a little better but be a bit less reliable. Unfortunately, even the X-700 isn't passing WAF at the moment. (And Buconero - she also says that 7.5" ...
Pioneer RT-707 reel to reel decks
Hi _ Thanks for the responses so far. To clarify a bit, the reason I'm looking for a player is that I recently found a large quantity (about 80 or so) Living Stereo, Living Presence, and London Blueback reels at a garage sale. I couldn't resist, a...
