What should I be auditioning?
Depening on your room size and amplifier I would checkout the Kef r500 if you have a dealer in the area. You can read a review at soundstagehifi.com. definitely an over achieving speaker with the qualities you are after. Best luck

How Many People Here Know About Lenehan Speakers
I have listened to a pair of monitors at a show last year driven by a pair of class D monos . And the sound was surprising good. Very natural, unforced, dynamic with good imaging . They were one of the better speakers I had heard at that show.

This might be some help. Keep in mind cables generally are system dependent. That said there are usually sonic traits to specific cables. I have tried many speaker cables in my system, of those I had the 44s and the 12tc. What I recall compared to...
Small speaker suggestions
I agree with joc3021 however for more dynamics and a bit more forgiving with rock, I would get the kef r300 same technology with added bass driver. Good luck
What speakers match my system? $3,000 Budget
Sorry its soundstagehifi.com . He also compares the kef r500 to the psb t2 which he strongly favors the r500 and compares to his revel salon 2 speakers at $21k these are no joke. I hope you can listen to a pair before you buy. Best
Is there really a need for panel speakers in 2012
At the risk of raising some feathers of those who like panels, which is fine if they are enjoying them. I personally would never use them. There are to many drawbacks and not enough positives to my ears but Thats Me.
