Integrated amp recommendation for Maggie .7's I had the Pharaoh in my system for a short time several year ago. Being the “big brother” of the Sphinx I expected it to deliver substantially better performance. That was not the case in my particular context. I actually preferred the Sphinx. Yo...
Small, Effective Subwoofers? I only have the one sub, as my dedicated listening room is fairly small. I positioned the sub between, and in the same plane as, the speakers. I have the gain on the sub very low, but it still has substantial output. An impressive component. :)
Small, Effective Subwoofers? I searched for a small, fast, musical sub for my Maggies for several decades. Had very little luck until I picked up a KEF KC62 last year. Pricey compared to the competition, but I couldn’t be happier. Keeps up with the speed of the Maggies and ha...
Integrated amp recommendation for Maggie .7's I agree with those who have found that Rogue amps have a nice synergy with Maggies. I’d recommend either the Sphinx or Cronus Magnum. I’m currently running a Kinki Studio EX-M1 integrated with my 1.7i Maggies. An excellent pairing. Plenty of power...
Is there a solid fuse-like item that I can use in place of a fuse, to bypass it? Looks like it’s currently out of stock, but here you go. I use these in my Magnepan 1.7s. I’ve owned Maggies for 40 years and never blew a fuse, so didn’t feel that I was taking much of a chance. Bypassing them made a significant sonic difference....
Would this be a good starter system for streaming? I purchased a Denafrips Pontus DAC this past year and am very pleased. Here’s a brief review that I provided on it...https://www.denafrips.com/single-post/2018/12/10/Pontus-DAC-New-YorkGood luck and happy listening! Michael
If you still spin CD's their is a reference level Transport for reasonable money Thanks so much for your positive feedback Nonoise. Much appreciated, especially in these sometimes contentious discussions. :^) I am very grateful that I have a dedicated room, however I just wish that it was a bit larger. Maggies like breathin...
If you still spin CD's their is a reference level Transport for reasonable money I just received my Jay's Audio transport last week and I highly recommend it. $2400 is not cheap, but at that price this transport is a bargain. Excellent build quality and sonics. Coincidentally, my brief review of it was just posted on the Ja...
Magnepan 1.7 i - Amp suggestions I've used a few Rogue integrated amps with my Maggie 1.7s and was quite happy with all of them. The Sphinx is an especially good bargain and does a super job with Maggies. Rogue is also a great company to deal with. Currently, however, I'm usin...
Help with picking new integrated for under 3k Just wanted to add another vote for the Kinki EX-M1 integrated. I have the first generation that only set me back about $2200 US. One of the best values of my 40+ years as a high end enthusiast. It looks like this original model is still availa...
R2R Dac choices. I was fortunate enough to audition both a Schiit Yggdrasil and a Holoaudio Spring Level 3 DAC in my home system. Although different sonically, I was very impressed by both. However, I ended up with a Denafrips Pontus and have not regretted this ...

MQA is Legit! Ha ha, "good" one paullyrockets! ;^) And I fully agree with you sns concerning the proprietary nature, and potential monopoly, of those owning and licensing MQA. Quite scary...All the best - Michael
MQA is Legit! erik_squiresI heard it more as a softening of transients and removing of space.I agree with Erik. I more recently have my Bluesound Vault 2 (with HiFi Tidal subscription) connected to an external, non-MQA, DAC. However, prior to that I had been us...
Are DAC's overpriced? I recently purchased a Denafrips Pontus R2R external DAC that I'm very pleased with. A bargain, I feel, at about $1800 US Dollars. My thoughts are posted on their website:https://www.denafrips.com/single-post/2018/12/10/Pontus-DAC-New-YorkThere'... |
